Band Members: BRUCE: Rhythm Guitar, cut his teeth on an electric guitar (G&L, bone finish, Tele style), but it was plugged in and he fried his brain. Has tried to claim that it was all of the drugs he used during the 60's (though he says he did not inhale) but it was 115 volts across an E string that gave him the actual lobotomy. Therefore, He is a virtual guitar machine though he forgets an occasional chord when playing, but he recovers nicely. As a preteen, he started out playing for a group called the Warlocks, but he felt they just were not going to ever amount to anything, so he quit and joined a group called Cream. He wanted a better gig so he quit that band and started up Second Childhood with Al. Eric Clapton took his place in Cream and it seems to have worked out real well for them, and of course, we all know the story of the Warlocks, they became the greatest touring band of all time, the Grateful Dead. One side effect of the brain-fry is Bruce is a walking Encyclopedia Of Rock And Roll. Go ahead, ask him something! I bet he knows it! If not, he knows the person who does know!
AL: Lead Guitar, actually taught Clapton how to play guitar along with Billy Gibbons, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and many other guitar gods who would have never made it big without Al. He is content to play with this band, now in his old age, but is still willing to mentor young aspiring rocks stars, such as John Mayer, Robert Randolph, and Johnny Lang. He has even given a few pointers to the young bass player phenom, Tal Wilkenfeld.
ROXANNE: Vocalist, appeared in 21 Jump Street in 1988 as Brad Pitt's love interest but quit the shallowness of Hollywood to return to her home in Memphis where she started working at Stax Records mopping floors and cleaning toilets. Soon after, she was discovered singing into the john and was asked to back up such Stax greats as Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, the Staple Singers, Booker T. & the MGs, Johnnie Taylor, Little Milton, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, and Ike & Tina Turner. She also joined a few of the folks at Sun Records, such as Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and, of course, Elvis! After work, she joined some of these folks on the many stages for live shows all up and down Beale Street, honing her skills as a siren of blues and soul. She has since moved to Flagstaff and feels this is the last best place and she has been working hard to save it. Don't mess with this girl! If you ever go to Memphis, though, take the tour of her childhood home.
ED: Bass, just wants to be Ed. Doing completely worthless work and saying completely inane things at any point in time and giving advice, even though you may not ask for it. He can still accomplish all of that while playing in this band.
ROBIN: Vocalist, After being in the band for long enough to forget how long she's been with the band, Robin is seriously considering a day job. Options include but are not limited to designing women's golf shoes, hiring out as a professional protestor, or becoming a surrogate mother. The last is unlikely as it would require too much time away from the band and hormonal changes may impact her voice as well as her ability to tolerate obnoxious bandmate behaviors.
She has recently taken up the mandolin and now has a keyboard – she figures the rest of the band is loud enough to cover any mistakes so is willing to give it a shot.
KATE: Vocalist, After living ten years off the grid in the middle of nowhere, having three babies with a bipolar guy, Kate came to her senses and to Flagstaff. Once her babies got big enough to get around on their own, Kate found some fabulous friends who encouraged her innate hamminess and helped her get over her self-consiousness.
She was fortunate to be chosen to play the goddess Air (yes it was total typecasting) in the groundbreaking performance of The Elementations (conceived by our very own Robin who IS the goddess Water), one of the many spectacular pieces in "It's The Peaks". "The Peaks" was a grass roots production to honor, and raise awareness of, the unique area of the San Francisco Peaks in Northern Arizona. Produced and created by the idealistic unrealistic supremely talented Flagstaff Activist Network. "The Peaks" played for several years, and the Elementations always brought down the house. Our spectacular Roxane George IS the goddess Fire (also typecast).
Having fully embraced the Fool, (we are fools whether we dance [sing] or not, so we might as well dance--and sing!) she loves the opportunity to make good use of all the songs stuck in her head since 1966.
LOUIS: Drummer, had sat in for Keith Moon on days in the recording studio when Moon just couldn't get the job done. He soon sat in for other drummers at the studio when they couldn't quite make it work. He as filled in for Ringo Starr, both Buddy Rich and Buddy Miles, and for both Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart AT THE SAME TIME! It took combination of a lot of different drugs to do that! Today, Louis is a big part of Second Childhood and supports himself by hand whittling drum sticks out of locally grown Ponderosa Pine.
Influences: Santana, Dylan, Hendrix, Joplin, Airplane, Jackson Browne, CSN&Y, Petty, Mellencamp, Orbison, Presley, Redding, Pickett, Al Green, Little Feat, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Neal Young, Michael Franti, Dixie Chicks, . . . the list goes on and continues to grow
Santana 69
Carlos Santana and his band playing Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock, 1969. This is probably the greatest live Rock and Roll performance ever. All members of Second Childhood were here for this performance. Look for each of us during the video. Bruce appears in the first scene standing in the water with his future wife, his trusty dog is watching him closely. Kate is displayed clearly on a split screen on each side of Santana several times, right after the drum solo starting at about 5:42. She thinks she had a big "O" right there on camera at about 6:20 into it. Louis appears at about 6:45 on the left, keeping the beat against the stage during the keyboard solo. Roxanne is grooving to the music,on the right, starting at about 7:18 while Al is on the left, briefly, at about 7:43, dancing with his dog. Ed is the bearded guy, the in the last scene for just a split second at 9:04. Robin was there but she was in the Porta John during this performance.
Sounds Like: We may only do covers but we do 'em OUR WAY! HARD AND LOUD!
