Come Together Community Festival

..Communal greetingsAn invitation is being made to all communities in the greater L.A. area to a "Come Together Festival". There truly is a rainbow of communities in Southern California who for too long have lived in isolation from one another. It's time to begin to build bridges. The principal concept behind the festival will be to celebrate and share with one another the richness and diversity that makes up our city. We would like to propose that the festival be held Sunday, September 30, 2007 with two main components to this festival. 1. Multi-Cultural/musical component that is as diverse as possible and promotes a deeper appreciation for one another’s heritage. From traditional to contemporary expressions of music, poetry, art and dance. 2. An informational component that promotes social justice and community empowerment. Groups and individuals that wish to promote community involvement and alternative approaches in areas such as health, employment, the environment, culture, immigration and peace will be encouraged to participate.Although our organization, L.A. Circle, is initiating the call, we hope that many groups and individuals can come together to form a true collective. This festival will be a totally volunteer, community-to-community based effort. Therefore, it is essential that as many groups as possible come together to give input and collectively give this festival its final content and character.May any bridges built promote many future crossings.PeaceL.A.
