About Me

From the Broadway stages to the concert stages of Europe, in his four decades of music, Elliott Lawrence has pretty much done it all. As a singer/dancer on Broadway in shows like JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, GODSPELL, PIPPIN, BUBBLING BROWN SUGAR, THE WIZ and A CHORUS LINE, Elliott excelled as a stellar song and dance man in every show he was in. In the mid 70's Elliott perfected his craft as a jazz vocalist, then moved to Europe where he performed in clubs and concert venues across a dozen different countries, working with the likes of Mark Murphy, John Hendricks, Eric Knight, and the Charlie Parker Museum All Star Jazz Big Band. Elliott now sets his sights on a new musical challenge - becoming the jazz guitarist he's always wanted to be. His vocal expertise allows him to apply his finely tuned musicality to the guitar making the transition seamless. Elliott leads a contemporary Smooth Jazz quartet that performs weekly throughout Southern California, but works mostly these days as a solo guitarist. Elliott's melodic baritone voice and tasteful guitar licks gives a special smoothness to a melody and carries the listener to that authentic jazz experience. "Music is not an end in itself....it's a way of expressing who we are...it's who we are that touches people."

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.myspace.com/elliottlawrence
Influences: The great singers and writers of our day, Jon Hendricks, Mark Murphy, Tony Bennett, Johnny Hartman, Johnny Mercer, Ella, Sarah and Nina, The Duke, The Count and Mister Bojangles and on guitar, Nick Colionne, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christinsen, Django Rheinheart
Sounds Like: My guitar playing is a work in progress hoping to keep it uncomplicated and clean. Because I'm a singer first, my attention is always to the melody line and only after it's stated the way it was written. then do I feel comfortable in taking creative liberties...but that's where the fun begins.
