The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ
There is a new sound traveling the Northeast at full speed that captures the essence of 70's rock but is alive with the intensity of the 90's. Kin's brand of hard-edged, groove-oriented bluesy rock music is captured on their first full-length album, Behind Closed Doors.
This four-woman band was brought to life in mid-1990 and took full bloom in 1993. Jodi, the lead vocalist of Kin, took a big leap eight years ago from her small town in southern Georgia where she was brought up singing country and gospel music. She met up with Lisa, who was working on a project she had started in Staten Island, New York. Introduced in June of that year by a mutual friend, the musical spark that resulted would become a brightly burning flame.
In August of 1992, walked into their lives, bringing her aggressive bluesy guitar riffs to the group. The final piece of the puzzle was found in 1993, when they crossed paths with native Jersey City girl Colleen. Her bass playing portrayed her fun-loving personality and was just what the three women were looking for.
Since their union, Kin has had numerous opportunities that have pushed them ever closer to the top of the ladder of success. In 1995, Kin was presented with the chance to open for several national acts, including Peter Criss and Ace Frehley of Kiss. The band began to attract the attention of many industry insiders, including Ben Smith, the drummer of Heart. In the spring of 1996, he flew in from Seattle to produce the band's EP, titled Brigade, which was recorded and mixed at RPM and Electric Lady studios in New York City.
The EP opened up yet another door for Kin; in October of '97, the girls were given the chance to showcase their musical talent at the PNC Bank Arts Center (formerly the Garden State Arts Center). This success inspired Kin to go back into the studio, sessions that resulted in the debut of their self-produced full-length album, Behind Closed Doors, which was recorded and mixed at Persia Studios on Staten Island.
Hungry to succeed at doing what they do best, their love of music comes through in every song and performance. The girls are back on stage with their new material, performing with such legends as Heart, Joan Jett, and Blue Oyster Cult. Kin's hopes and dedication are stronger than ever. See and hear for yourself what true Kin can do.
