Cheray has been singing and playing instruments since the day she started walking. (Doesn't everybody say that?) At school she played lead Alto saxophone in the Big Band and won Best Jazz Saxophonist in Queensland for her age (those were great days). After leaving school she joined Mystic Vibe and spent almost two years in live gigs as their singer and percussionist. Since then she's been working solo on acoustic originals and the development of her own style. In April of 2007 she auditioned for Australian Idol and succeeded in becoming one of their top 24 contestants out of 35,000 auditionees. The journey with Idol has helped Cheray to understand her visions with performing her own songs, and singing covers to get somewhere isn't exactly her 'cup of tea' :)
Cheray is a Kindergarten teacher in Elanora, Queensland, and a nanny. She loves the children (but secretly loves finger painting and making sandcastles more!). Cheray has been a Kindy teacher for almost 5 years and believes being able to give back to the community and help young children to blossom is one of the greatest gifts anyone could give. Children are our future. Cheray is now looking to study naturopathy and children's nutrition next year.
Let's Get Personal .... :
You are only as old as you feel. Don't celebrate your age, celebrate your life.
I believe in fairies. I've seen one. I have respect for the elderly. I love going for walks in the rain. Reading is something the whole world should take time to do. Turn off the T.V. Poetry and music - my ticket to euphoria. I love birds. In my next life, I will be one. Nail polish looks disgusting. Doesn't matter what colour it is. Nectarines are holy fruit. Why are tanned bodies so cool? Got a knot you can't untie? Give it to me. I've never been a morning person, but I always get up early. Love makes the world so much more beautiful. Forgiveness sets us free. I can't stop taking photos of sunsets in April. Staring at the sky makes me feel free. Magazines are mindless babble. I love summer storms. Thunder at night. Chewing gum makes me sneeze. I don't know why. Suncream is sticky and smells funny. Let the sun shine on your face. I could stare at an atlas for hours. Geography is alluring. Why do people feel the need to belong? I cannot stand sand in the bed. It drives me nuts. I love beads and wood. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. Why do people eat crap food? Trees are the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I love blank pieces of paper and indian ink. What are tights? They look ridiculous. The cultures of our world fascinate me. I want to go to Africa and India. Sunsets are breath- taking. Hand-written letters are beautiful treasures. Everyone should have a windchime outside their door. Umbrellas are stupid inventions. Silence is golden. Heaven is in the mind. Religion seperates us. But don't get me started on that one.
In her spare time Cheray loves to:
Caress the strings on her guitar, spend time with her man, cook, paint, write poetry, garden, drop into dark cafes for earl grey tea, go for long drives, scrapbook with photos, draw, fill journals with words inspired by life, go to the markets, play with her 3 cockatiels (Bindy, Willow and Jack - and two babies on the way!), take long walks with mother nature and OP shop.
Star Sign:
Virgo Born September 19th 1984, Murwillumbah, NSW.
Favourite Movies: Any documentary (but my favourite is David Attenborough and "The Private Life of Plants" - seriously, Death at a Funeral (hilarious), Forrest Gump, Elizabeth Town, Apocolypto, The Beach, Thelma and Louise, The Craft, Girl Interrupted, Lord of the Rings, The Descent, Fern Gully, Dumb and Dumber, Nell, Ledgends of the Fall, The Notebook, I Am Ledgend (awesome).
Personality Traits:
Relaxed, optimistic, joyful, creative, grounded (but free ... odd combo?), musical, honest, motivated and inspired. Oh, and I have an obsession with good food and good wine. Is that a personality trait?
People Cheray Would Love to Meet: I'd love to chat with Joni Mitchell over a glass of Merlot in a dark cafe' (dream come true). Followed by a walk in the park with David Attenborough. Fascinating. Then sit on a blanket in a garden with 'The Beatles' and Joni ... again .... then finish the afternoon off with a green tea and a plate of dhal on a grassy hill watching the sun go down with the Dalai Lama and a Hindu ....
Bad Habits:
Eats too much and bites her nails! Naughty. I'm always hungry. I don't get it?
