Tuchul Linguists

About Me

We are the Tuchul Linguists - Repsac (MC/producer), Mr Diggler (MC), and Jfrog the Virus (MC). We are a hiphop crew from Christchurch, New Zealand and have been rapping and recording together since 2005. Our music is designed primarily to entertain through the use of linguistic wit and black comedy, brutal punchlines, and lyrical montages. Our subject matter covers everything from controversial issues and personal struggle to our disdain for the rap industry and love for underground hiphop. We are militantly opposed to commercial hiphop, fake-arse wannabe gangsters, and talentless fuckheads who think hiphop is some kind of catch-all art form and a fast track to status and respect. Furthermore, we despise political correctness and pop culture. We are down with dope original hiphop - where ever it may come from, and are especially dedicated to the resurgence of hiphop in our home city, Christchurch. Over the past year we have been working intensively on both our live performance and studio technique. We have played gigs in Brisbane and Christchurch - recently at Hit the Mic with several other local hiphop acts, where we competed for, and won, the title of "Hit the Mic Champions". We also have upcoming shows with the Grymeworks crew with whom we are working on a number of collaborative projects. Most of our free time is spent rehearsing and working on tracks for our debut street album which we are producing with our long-time collaborator Tasman MC from Brisbane duo Braintrust. The album will feature tracks by Tuchul Linguists and Tasman MC; plus contributions from Christchurch DJs El Pasko and Haphazard; producers John Doe (Perth), Mitch Moerton (from Braintrust), and Juddabarz; resident artist and aspiring rapper Toby One Kenobi, Roob Dog the Molester, local heavy metal band Habit, German producers Knockoutking Produktion, Orakle from Poisonous Youth, Seka from TNT, and Jay Roacher. We expect to have our street album and a follow-up mixtape available for purchase and free download early in 2009. Looking to the future - we are planning some major hiphop events in Christchurch for the remainder of the year and this coming summer, and, to this purpose, will be working closely with other heads on the local scene so keep watching this page for upcoming shows. It is our belief that the Christchurch music scene, while vibrant and full of promise, is presently saturated with meaningless shite. The ridiculous over-representation of drum n bass in the local club scene is a testament to this. At Hit the Mic we were cut off in the middle of our set by about 30 cops who dispersed a good half of our crowd and threatened to shut down the event. Never mind the ecstasy/speed-fuelled dance scene or the drunken violence of Oxford Terrace - but a hiphop show of a hundred people in an out of the way location can get shut down because of a small crowd on the street? This is evidence of the stigma that is still attached to hiphop by society. The Tuchul Linguists are here, not just to make real hiphop and bring it to fake fucks, but also to join with other real hiphop crews to provide an alternative to the great mass of electronic and popular/mainstream music that is currently choking the local and national scenes, and to help establish hiphop as a meaningful and legitimate art form. We are keen to work with all the true heads who share these sentiments. Fuck the haters, respect and love to all our troopers out there, and mad shout outs to all our comrades in Christchurch and New Zealand keeping the underground scene alive. Peace.
