MONDO DOMINGO is a musical group! A rare breed of four highly suspect, yet undeniably unique individuals that came together in the city of Los
Angeles to create their own brand of Latin infused psychedelic pop.
The band consists of AM (vocals/guitar) Rick Garcia (vocals/timbales)
Mark Getten (bass guitar) and Chris Lovejoy (drums). The style and sound
of their music is truly their own and can only be experienced and not
described. The group strongly feels that to personally describe their
own music would only place a "curse" on them and then they wouldn't be
able to create MONDO DOMINGO music anymore. Longtime fan Lucy Valdez
once described them as "...some form of a Mexican cocktail while being
enjoyed in the California sun knowing you'll have a lot more of that
same cocktail later that night at a cock fight."
The origin of the name MONDO DOMINGO: The group was originally
called MANDO Domingo. Mando was the former clave player of the band
and supreme chick magnet. When the group began to earn a sizable
income Mando took off with the money. He ripped the group off!
Leaving them clave-less and broke! To this day he is nowhere to be
found. Feeling greatly betrayed, the group changed their name to
MONDO DOMINGO in order not to confuse their global fanbase too much.
"We still don't know what the name means, but that's okay," states Lovejoy. Needless to say the band rarely incorporates clave anymore. Now it's mostly cowbell...and when they DO incorporate clave it is most assuredly played by Garcia as there was always a competitive thing going on with him and Mando when it came to clave.
"Above all we love creating music for the people to enjoy it," says AM. "We are a
band of the people," injects Garcia. "We try not to talk about these
things because then we get very; how do you say it? In your head too
much," concludes Getten.
