Influences: Singers: John Lennon has to be my favourite singer, his voice has a unique quality. It's spine tingling. I also love Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Elvis Costello and a lot of the old school singers especially Dinah Washington, Nat King Cole and Nina Simone.Writers: Lennon & McCartney, as Ian Macdonald says in his book 'Revolution in The Head', the two represented "a classic clash between truth and beauty".
I love Lennon's 'Happiness is a warm gun' and 'I'm So Tired' from the 'White Album', also 'Don't Let Me Down' and 'Come Together'.McCartney can never be discounted he's the melody king, 'Eleanor Rigby', 'For No One', 'Penny Lane', 'She's Leaving Home', Hey Jude' and the montage of songs on Abbey Road. Genius. My favourite Beatles song? 'A Day In The Life'.Other influences: Burt Bacharach, Crowded House and Elvis Costello.More favourite songs: We Have all The Time In The World, You've Lost That Loving Feeling, Be My Baby, The Look Of Love, God Only Knows, Son Of A Preacher Man, Life On Mars, All The Young Dudes, SOS, I Don't Like Monday's, Alison, Real Gone Kid, Don't Dream It's Over, Better Be Home Soon, One, Fields of Gold. Love Is A Losing Game. What I'm listening to now: 'Back To Black' Amy Winehouse.
