Hi, I’m a singer of folksongs, traditional songs and contemporary songs based in Scotland. I’ve performed and recorded, over a number of years, with other singers and musicians in projects, but notably with Janet Russell, in supertrio, Chantan, Calluna, and most recently, SINSHEEN.
I love working with other singers and musicians, and have been invited to sing and play recently in various projects with Anna Wendy Stevenson, Rebecca Knorr, Charlotte Petersen (Calluna); “Songs and Tunes of the Sea” with the wonderful multi- instrumentalist Norman Chalmers (Jock Tamson’s Bairns, Ossian)and, among other current projects, with the brilliant, original singer from Ceolbeg, Barbara Dymock, in the aforementioned exciting new harmony duo, Sinsheen.
I perform and teach at home and abroad. I also have been involved in founding many community singing groups in Scotland, including Sangstream, Sangschule, Angus Folk, Breakish Singers and JustSingin.
I’ve appeared on TV in the UK, Europe, Russia and Japan, on radio at home and internationally. Concerts include numerous festivals,( including Celtic Connections, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Towersey, Whitby, Sidmouth, Orkney) in the UK, Europe (many including Northlands, Lorient), and festivals and tours include those in the USA, Canada, Russia, Europe.
My latest solo album, ‘Dark Pearls’, got excellent reviews. Launched on the Culburnie label, the album features Lorraine Jordan as guest musician.
I’ve also written a lot of songs over a number of years, which are more pop, indie and Country in feel. In SINSHEEN (sunshine) I’m happy singing lead and harmony as well as playing the guitar- we sing songs we like- traditional or contemporary.
Currently I’m studying for an Masters in Ethnology and Folklore.
