Millikin University Percussion Ensemble

About Me

The Millikin Chamber Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Brian Justison, has been widely acclaimed for its performances of concert repertoire for percussion instruments. Its first CD, Best Kept Secret, received laudable reviews from both Gramophone Magazine and Percussive Notes. The group is also a recent winner (2003) of the Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competition. As part of its PASIC performance, the ensemble had the opportunity to premiere three new works for large percussion ensemble. Each semester, one of four sub-groups are drawn from the core of this ensemble. A classical marimba quartet, a ragtime xylophone group, and a Guatemalan/Mexican marimba ensemble, and an experimental music ensemble. In sum, these groups explore the diverse world of percussion music from the novel to the sublime. The ensemble frequently embarks on regional tours, performing primarily for music students at high schools and colleges, and for regional music festivals. Please feel free to contact us regarding a percussion tour performance at your school.
