DAZ on TRUMPET
ABOUT:
DAZ on TRUMPET is a musician hailing from the great city of BRISBANE – AUSTRALIA.
An extremely versitile musician, DARREN performs with many professional groups, bands and dee-jays where his personal flare and laid back, jazz influenced style allow him to be one of the most in demand TRUMPET players around.
Sometimes called DISCO DAZ (or Darren to his friends), began playing at school when he was 10 years old. He enjoyed the sound of the TRUMPET - it suited his personality. He has successfully completed a four year jazz performance degreee at the Conservatorium of Music Brisbane, from 2002 to 2005.
Launching into the dance music scene with professionalism and enthusiasm since only 2006, DAZ has been kept extremely busy with residencies at BIRDIE NUM NUMBS, BREAKS And ENTER, GPO CODE BAR, THE EMPIRE HOTEL, UBER, THE PORT OFFICE, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND (Cairns) and has graced the stages of the FUTURE MUSIC FESTIVAL, MALIBU SUNSET FESTIVAL, PARKLIFE, SOUNDS BOUTIQUE/SHAKE AND BREAK, YO-PLAY, OCEAN'S 30 SUNSET FESTIVAL, BIG DAY OUT, GOOD VIBRATIONS FESTIVAL and BBQ BREAKS/BEATS on New Years Day.
A prolific performer, DARREN has played nearly ALL of Brisbane's live venues, where he holds residencies at major clubs and bars. He has toured all over Australia including Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, Darwin, as well as many regional cities with varying groups. Internationally, he has ventured across the Tasman to the Nth Island of New Zealand twice, for successfull tours with DUBDOUBT in 2007 and 2008.
DAZ has been nominated for Q SONG's 'Dance Song of the Year' in 2004, for his work with DJ BURE and vocalist Emily Thompson on the tune 'Last Dance'. Currently, DAZ on TRUMPET is concentrating on raising his profile within Australia, playing at major Brisbane AND interstate clubs and festivals using his wireless trumpet microphone to tantalise and tease dance floors at any venue that can handle it!

MEDIA:
inthemix.com talk about DAZ and Boomstar Loco;
"The rustic notes of Darren Skaar's trumpet pierced Radaza's rhythmic fabric, the reverb nicely balancing the mix. Darren's sound was sharp and intense, definitely knife-like in that closed atmosphere....It's a testimony to Darren's superb musicianship that he could control his sound under such difficult circumstances, keeping the resonance brilliant and his technique at the forefront; leading melodious tones through vigorous beats and scorching textures."
MUSICALLY SPEAKING:
Darren likes all GOOD QUALITY music, but especially the stuff that trumpet or sax can sit in well with like latin house, jazz funk, dub reggae, funky breaks and commercial house.
GEAR:
DAZ performs on a B&S Challenger II 'Elaboration' 3138/2 matt gold trumpet with a Monette B4LDS mouthpiece, and a Yamaha Bobby Shew Flugal Horn and mouthpiece.
