MARCH 9TH DON'T MISS Amy Ruiz form the Portland Mercury writes October 17 POP TART Sunday afternoons are for napping, which is one reason I never made it to Tart, Holocene's old Sunday queer event (dancing at 4 pm?!?). Enter Pop Tart, a revamp headed up by Kaki Marshall, a new promoter with some big ideas, like importing headlining DJs from up and down the West Coast, focusing on dancetastic music and partying past sundown. (So take the Sunday afternoon nap, then head to Holocene.) AJR w/DJ Harmony; Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison, 7 pm, $5Portland's premier swank soiree where the queer girls play is popping the bubble! Pop Tart is a queer dance party that is held every second Sunday from 7pm till late at Holocene 1001 SE Morrison in Portland OR. Come join us as we dance our asses off to the west coasts premier Dj's. It's still a swank soiree, and yes the queer girls will play but we welcome all gender-benders ready to drop some sweat on the floor! Pop Tart is here! The dance party happens every second Sunday at Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison from 7pm till late.New later hours are not the only thing that's popped at Tart.. Pop Tart showcases Dj's from all over the west October 14 will be showcasing the styles of Victor Menegaux, Resident Dj at Club Trinity in SeattlePop Tart will also continue to support the amazing local Dj's we all have grown to love as well as creating an outlet for local queer performance art. In the coming month's Pop Tart patrons can enjoy a few hours of performance art review prior to getting their groove on the dance floor. So mark your calendar for every second Sunday, you won't be disappointed! What: Pop tart Where: 1001 SE Morrison When: Sept 9 and every second Sunday How much: five dollarsfor more information go to myspace.com/poptart_portland poptart or email Kaki at [email protected] Our first party on Sept 9th was the PDX premier for A+D. Known mostly as the DJ duo who helped bring mashups to America, Adrian & the Mysterious D have forged a reputation as crowd-pleasing selectors who not only shamelessly bridge the gap between genres, but between the alternative and the mainstream. This is best evidenced by the success of their club Bootie, the first and biggest mashup bootleg party in the United States. Launched in San Francisco in 2003, Bootie was recently listed in Spin magazine as one of the country's "101 Best Nights Out," and was voted "Best Dance Club" (2006 & 2007) in the SF Bay Guardian's "Best of the Bay." In 2005, they started a successful sister club in Los Angeles, and earlier this year launched Bootie parties in New York City and Paris, further solidifying the DJ couple’s renown as pioneers of the American mashup scene. They gave away some CD's to folks dancing on the floor but you can dowload all their hits for free on their wab site!
