About Me

One of the drummers I respect most in nashville, Lamar Carter, left his gig with Carrie Underwood last year to play for Joss Stone. I was one of about ten guys called in to audition to replace him. The bass player/band leader, Mark Childers, told me they wanted ten guys in town that came highly recommended to come and play for him and the top 4 would be called back and interviewed individually by her management(19 entertainment/American Idol). I tried to keep my head and not freakout. I found out that several drummers in town, that I read about all the time in all the drum mags, were called and interested in leaving their gigs to take the gig. That, of course, made me even more nervous. Anyway, somehow I did get the callback. I then met and interviewed with her management. I’m not telling this story to brag because I DID NOT get the gig. But it was still one of the coolest things that ever happened in my career(me being a little dude that grew up playing praise and worship in Tulsa Oklahoma auditioning for the top selling artist of 2006,WOW). I moved to Nashville about six years ago and have been blessed to tour or record with some of Christian music’s biggest and brightest stars. It is experience and exposure from these people (now some of my best friends) that have put me "in the room" with some of nashville’s best drummers. KJ52, Plus One, Carman, Natalie Grant, Hawk Nelson, Zoe Girl, Sanctus Real, Rebecca St. James, Nathan Walters, Aaron Benward of Blue County, Patty Cabbrera, ETW and Raze. To all of them I’d like to say "Thank You".

Influences: I recently watched a Modern Drummer DVD featuring several great drummers. There was a special section designated to the impact of Gospel drumming on modern pop, hip-hop, and r &b music. Teddy Campbell(American Idol, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys) said that there are 4 Gospel drummers that influenced him and many other drummers on the scene today. He said the names: Joel Smith, Jeff Davis, Gerald Heyward, and DANA DAVIS. I am proud to call the last guy (Dana) my uncle. He inspired me to play drums in the first place and has been an incredible supporter and teacher to me as long as I can remember. I still want to be "Uncle Dana" when I grow up. DAVE WECKL, DENNIS CHAMBERS, Vinnie COLIUTA, THE CONCORD BLUE DEVILS DRUMLINE AND CORP, THE CADETS OR BERGEN COUNTY DRUMLINE(FORMERLY GARFIELD CADETS) AND CORP, THE CHICK COREA ELEKTRIC BAND, RODNEY JERKINS, TIMBALAND, TEDDY RILEY, JAY-Z, DR. DRE AND MICHAEL JACKSON.And last but certainly not least WILLIE DAVIS(My Biggest influence and teacher of everything I aspire to be as a man in life and in music, who happens to be my Dad. Maybe one day in my lifetime I will feel worthy enough to be called the birth name you gave me, Willie James Davis III. I love you Daddy.
