Freelm West was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina in the summer of 1986. When age three, his family moved to Texas, then Europe at age five. While traveling Europe, Freelm widened his culture and when he and his family moved back to the United States, began his musical journey, both free and spiritual. Today Freelm West studies jazz at North Carolina Central University and plays music regularly with Johnny Burkes’ Deltas. The Deltas are an energetic electric trio, who play a diverse assortment of instrumentals. Their music is often simple, but always soulful and groovin’. The sound is stripped down and raw, given that there's a rhythm section and one guitar player, yet the effect proves to be delightfully human and real. Their live set includes both familiar and obscure progressions in the styles of Funk, Blues, Rockabilly, Soul, Bossa Nova, African, Swing, Psychedelic rock, Rag, and of course their forte as a unit: roots Reggae with a hint of “dubâ€...that's right, live reggae dub music! All this, they play with the same intensity by which they have studied this old roots music. The Deltas pride themselves upon the diversity of the various styles they play and the "authenticity" that their tunes seem to possess. Their music has a way of laying a soulful backdrop in a given setting, blending in and becoming “background music,†like your radio sometimes will. Yet, the sound remains ever rhythmically infectious and entertaining. Johnny Burke & The Deltas was formed by the brothers Coppola...Clark (guitar) and Caleb (drums) along with friend Jon Baughman (bass).
