About Me

This is a fan page for Southern Rock / Metal bands in general, but mostly Down, The greatest of them all in my opinion and also Blackfire Confederacy, an awesome band from Brazil, check them out.
&nbsp
This profile is set not to accept band requests, but if you think your band should be here, then message me and I will check you out. Alternatively, add yourselves to my Dragula account in my friends list.
Down came into being originally just as a group of friends from New Orleans who would get together from time to time to jam and play some Black Sabbath songs. Just something to do when their other bands had some down time. It soon became apparent that there was more to this than just a few jam sessions now and then. The band started writing a few original songs and soon decided that they needed to release them.
In September 1995 Their first album “Nola” was released and soon became a timeless Metal masterpiece. The line up for this album was:
Philip Anselmo - Vocals (Pantera)
Pepper Keenan – Guitar (Corrosion Of Conformity)
Kirk Windstein – Guitar (crowbar)
Todd Strange – Bass (Crowbar)
Jim Bower – Drums (EyeHateGod)
The band played 13 shows and then went back to their other bands and put Down on hold. Nola sold close to half a million copies through word of mouth, just goes to show how great an album it is! The next album wouldn’t be released for another seven years.
In 1999 Rex Brown (Pantera) took over the Bass playing for the band.
In March 2002 Down released their second album: II A bustle in your hedgerow. The album debuted Billboard charts at no. 44 selling over 30'000 copies in it's first week of sale. They were also added to the 2002 Ozzfest and they also scheduled some headline shows during their Ozzfest off days.
Some Canadian shows had to be cancelled when Philip suffered a scratched cornea and was advised by doctors to rest. The band would soon be back in action and scheduling a run of headline North American shows to take them through November and be confirmed as one of the headline attractions at the mammoth 'Beast Fest' event in Japan during December of 2002.
All things went quiet on the Down front again until in 2006 they were announced as a performing artist at the Italian Gods of Metal festival. They performed their first ever European date on May 19th at the Grosse Freiheit in Hamburg, Germany. A "Sunday Music Workshop Series" performance at Tiptina's in New Orleans, Louisiana held on November 12th saw Robert Mercurio from New Orleans band GALACTIC filling in for Rex Brown.
The band demoed about 18 tracks in Nodferatu's Lair, Philip Anselmo's own studio in Folsom, with engineer David Troia and in February 2007, the band started recording their third album “ III: Over The Under” .They played their first show in over nine months at the El Corazon in Seattle, Washington on March 9th 2007. They then went back out on another high profile US tour in 2007, packaged with headliners HEAVEN AND HELL and MOTÖRHEAD in March. Unfortunately the group managed to perform at the opening Vancouver show before cancelling dates in Edmonton, Calgary and Regina due to Philip contracting strep throat. They were the surprise band on the Saturday morning at the Download festival in the U.K. They maintained their support position to HEAVEN AND HELL's Australian dates in August. “ III - Over the Under”, was released on September 25th through new label Roadrunner in Europe (contaning the bonus song "Invest In Fear"). US headline shows started on September 27th at Stoney's in Reno, Nevada and will run through into late February 2008.
