EL CAMINO ROJO....LA PALABRA DE NUESTROS ANCENTROSWe are focused on bringing the fire back to the community. Sharing our ancestral dance, song, and ceremonies in a good way. Our vision is not to change anyones belief system, but to show, teach, and respectfully honor our ancestral way of life.Mission:
To develop, promote, preserve, teach, study and cultivate the philosophy, history, tradition, culture and arts of our indigenous heritage to teach students and the surrounding communities in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest . This will be done through classes, academic projects, research, documentaries, Mexica Danza presentations, traditional theater, literature, painting, and sports, educational, artistic and cultural events.
Philosophy:
It is our belief that education, knowledge of communal history, culture and arts will help Chicano/Mexican/Latino youth and communities develop a cultural voice, a cultural space, and a sense of identity and pride. Armed with these tools, individuals will be better prepared to move into leadership positions in their communities. By applying the basic tenants of Mexica/Indigenous Philosophy (respect, humbleness, education, discipline, family, community and leadership) Mexican/Latinos can begin to exert the self-determination necessary for forging a productive and positive future for themselves and future generations.
Purposes & Vision:
• To help the Mexican and Latino community cultivate and enrich their cultural background.
• To educate Mexicans and Latinos about their history, ancient roots/heritage, and traditions on this continent.
• To help youth to continue their education in a traditional, cultural and academic way.
• To promote culture, art and sports in order to encourage youth to be active, healthy, and productive.
• To create a positive, productive and healthy environments, in communities for Latinos and for others.
• To establish national and international cultural exchanges to enrich families, communities., Oregon and the Northwest through research, documentaries, dances, literature.
• To organize: cultural, education, artistic, and sports events.
