About Me
Hailing from Sacramento, a city dominated by metal and punk rock bands, THE RUIN strives to give loyal music fans something different. A blend of alternative, dance, indie, and straight forward rock comes from The Ruin’s desire to just play what comes out. With no set goal for genre, sound, label or design, Andy, Kris, Matt and Ryan work together to create music that crosses borders. This fluid nature of The Ruin allows them to bring music to Sacramento that people of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy.
In 2006, The Ruin began playing together as a friends looking for a reason to jam and drink beer. After writing a few songs, The Ruin started playing for friends and family who encouraged them to take things to the next step. The Ruin played their first public show at Java Café in Fair Oaks, CA. With a large turn-out and good reception to their music, The Ruin decided to record a demo CD.
In 2007, Hear and Destroy was recorded at The Formulation Room, in Sacramento. The demo was tracked live to save time and money and includes errors and omissions at no extra charge, but still turned out to be popular among The Ruin’s fans. After playing shows all over the greater part of Sacramento while selling Hear and Destroy to cover gas money, The Ruin decided it was time to record something substantial.
After writing new tracks in 2008, The Ruin went back to The Formulation Room, where their unofficial producer, Dustin Ryan helped them create 3 new polished singles. In early 2009, Tell By The Sweat, Slip Away, and Overflow were released on CD as well as iTunes, Napster, and Amazon.com. As the days roll by and summer heats up, The Ruin is planning more shows all over Sacramento while continuing to write new tunes.
