I grew up listening to all sorts of music and went through many different phases. Growing up between the IL & WI border, I was never able to settle on loving a certain genre of music more than the other. Regardless, no matter what I wrote or said, I truly believed God had given me a way with words. And hiphop, being the word driven art that it is, was very attractive to me at the time.
Junior year in High School I started my first "rap group" and that is where my music career began. It was just for fun and did not last long.. but I continued on with solo projects. Down the road, just before graduating High School, I started to play what would be my first "real instrument"...the drums!
Since this, I have formed bands that have tried and failed. Skyward, my current "hiphop project", was an escape from the failures of my bands. I have always wanted to excel and "make it" in the music world...and I was going to do it with members or without.
After doing live peformaces and making almost a whole full length album of hiphop songs...I began to realize that the talent was there..but my heart was not. I started adding all my friends and family and people around the country. I realized I kept adding people that were like me...people that loved indie rock. This obviously did not mix with my genre I was trying to promote and my results were poor. The people I was trying to connect with didn't feel the connection and either did I. I realized that hiphop was great but I had to change my style or get out of the business.
So, I could not take it anymore. Even though I was drummer and hiphop artist... I felt that I was being lead to say something that was too hard to say behind a drum kit or even a rap beat. I picked up a guitar and started singing.
Recently, in 2009, I have decided that it is time to bring to "Skyward's" music where my heart and passion really lies. I am putting an end to my "rap career" but I will be using this same page to create something for a new generation to listen to and appreciate. Not only can I rap...but I have become a well rounded drummer, a passionate guitarist and lyricist. I plan to use these talents and bring a new sound to the table.
New Music is on the horizon for me and I hope that everyone can come along and appreciate what is about to happen to, Skyward. Of course...soon I will not be Skyward anymore I will be [blank].
