Symphony Of The Forsaken

About Me

Symphony Of The Forsaken, a progressive/experimental musical project, is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Ben Brodie. Presently it is a 'one-man' band - I record all guitar, bass, synth and vocals myself, while the authentic strings and drums are created using a collection of virtual instrument software. I write based on the principle that music should be about music and absolutely nothing else. I write music which is in my heart - there are no other compromises. This way, I can be even more satisfied when someone says they actually enjoy my music. I intend to distribute all the music I create for free, as widely as possible. At the moment I am working on a number of songs which will soon come together to create my first self-published freely downloadable 'album'. Some ideas date as far as back as 2005, while some will only come into full bloom right at the end of my home recording 'sessions'.Lost In Utopia (due for completion March/April 2009)1. Lost In Utopia - 10 min. approx: A psychedelic rock piece stringly influenced by 70's progressive rock, particularly Yes, and modern artists such as The Flower Kings. 2. (Untitled) - 8 min. approx: A 'quasi-classical' piano 'sonata'. I've only just started to write this piece and have decided not to name it until it's complete. 3. Cryogenic - 12 min. approx: A progressive/symphonic metal piece inspired by a wide range of music from baroque music to 21st century progressive and power metal. The beginning of the track is available to listen to on the music player. 4. Insomnia - 6 min. approx: A significantly less self-indulgent, more conventionally-structured and relaxed piece with subtle folk and classical overtones. 5. Through Agony And Ecstasy - 35 minutes: A conceptual four-part progressive metal epic, inspired by the pioneers of modern progressive music - Dream Theater, Opeth, Symphony X etc. A rough, early recording of the first and longest part, Damnation, is currently available to listen on the music player. Here is a list of the all the instruments and software I use/have used/will be using in the near future to create my music. - Instruments- Ibanez S7320 guitar (7-string) - Ibanez SZ320 guitar (6-string) - Fender Squier Strat guitar (6-string) - Freshman Electro-acoustic guitar - Jazz III guitar picks :) - Boss GT10 guitar effects unit - Boss ME50 guitar effects unit - Line 6 Spider III 75W amp - Marshall AVT 100W amp - Harley Benton 5-string bass guitar - Mapex VX Drum Kit with Paiste cymbals (and Mike Portnoy signature sticks) - Yamaha PSR-E403 61-key keyboard - Roland Juno-D 61-key synthesizer - Gorilla Keyboard amp - Behringer Eurorack UB1832FX-Pro mixerVirtual Instrument Software (VSTi) and Recording Software - Native Instruments Absynth 4 and Garritan Personal Orchestra - Miroslav Philharmonik Orchestra - Roland Edirol Orchestra - EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Gold Edition - KORG Legacy Collection - Spectrasonics Stylus - Fruity Loops 4 Studio Edition - Syntheway Magnus Virtual Choir - EZDrummer Drumkit From Hell - Creative WaveStudio 7 - Reaper - Steinberg Cubase - Cool Edit Pro

Sounds Like: Absolutely anything I want the music to sound like. I'm not going to feed you the cliches about how my music sounds like nothing you've ever heard before - because as far as I'm concerned 99% of those who say that... are talking out of their ass. We won't slap a cheap label on ourselves, and neither should you.But imagine a marriage of 70's prog rock, modern progressive/symphonic metal, classical music, electronic music, and you're starting to get somewhere close.
Record Label: Entirely self-published.
Type of Label: Unsigned
