BIO “The Filth Front” – Violently Anti…!The History:The name ‘t Vettig Front saw the light in the early 80ies. It was the name we gave us Antwerp HC punks, who regularly met up at a pub called “De Waag” and stayed at the filthy two-piece apartment of a mutual friend. At that time there were two sub-scenes within the Belgian HC punk scene: the Hageland HC crew from Diest with their preference for US and Italian HC and our Antwerp crew who were heavily into British, German, Dutch, Swedish and Finnish HC punk.We started organizing gigs under that same name at a venue back then called “1000 Appeltjes”, with UK Subs, Disorder, the Depraved, Malinheads, etc…At some point “the name” moved along with Fred, Diana and Blauwers to several locations and eventually became the name of the band we started up in a little attic in Waarloos ('86).At that time our band consisted of : -Fred (voice & guitar)-Diana (voice) -Blauwers (drums) -Bosse (bass). Bosse however soon had other priorities and was replaced by Benny, but only a few months later we stopped rehearsing altogether, ‘t Vettig Front was no more.The attic had to be abandoned, and Fred & Diana dissociated themselves from the punkscene and disappeared for over a decade. However, during all that time Blauwers kept the spirit alive and continued to organize gigs and played in several bands such as Totally Tilt ('84), DHS (de heftige spermacellen, '85), 't Vettig Front ('86), No Respect ('88) en Steel Jezus ('89).In 2002, Fred made his reappearance into the Antwerp scene.He got in touch again with Joris (“Einstein”), former drummer of Fred’s first band “Brutal Society” (’82-’83), who, after having worked himself through some other bands, now just played a bit of guitar all by himself at home.Disappointed with the lack of decent oldschool HC punk compared to the overload of NY HC bands and streetpunk, Fred and Joris decided to form a new band, influenced by the HC punk they listened to in the 80ies.They asked 17 year old Jena as 2nd voice, and Blauwers (“ Vettig Patje”) was asked to pick up his former place behind the drumkit. Vettig Patje knew Zen, a bass player who’d already proven his musical skills (drums, bass and voice) in several Anarcho-, HC- and Ska punk bands, such as Skatta, Moss, Hirudo, Karma, Reposters, Dischargers, Hara’Kiri, Antwerp Attitude and 88Mate! (the Antifa-ska band he’s still with, as drummer). Zen who’d been craving to play raw old HC punk, dug up his bass guitar and broken amplifier from the basement and joined.Since the original founders of ‘t Vettig Front were once again united, it was unanimously decided to reinstate the old name. It was 2005 and ‘t Vettig Front was reborn as an ANTIFA/ANARCO raw hcpunk-band!, with : Fred (voice)-Jena (2nd voice)-Joris (guitar)-Zen (bass)-Vettig Patje (drums) A while later however the feeling rose that a female voice didn’t fit our sound, Jena then took the praiseworthy initiative to step aside and pursue a new project of her own.Today: To add additional power and anger to our music, we decided to take on a 2nd guitarist. Ben, at age 21 and formerly for 6 months with “Happy Depression” when he was 19. The fact that 3 generations of punx were united in 1 band, makes ‘t Vettig Front quite unique.To appeal to the largest possible crowd, our songs are in English, Dutch as well as French.The subjects we cover include : unemployment, anti-fascism, discrimination, religious extremism, incest and abuse. Issues which concern all of us and which frustrate Ben, in his 20ies as much as Zen in his 30ies and Fred (now “granddad”), Einstein and Vettig Patje now in their 40ies. Then Joris 'Einstein' decided to quit the band, cause of personal and understandable reasons. And Ben also left meanwhile, to experiment some new frontiers. We all wish him the best in his quest. We asked Jens (former guitarplayer from PlanB, and now N.P.T.) to join us. And now we're back a 4piece band with a load of adrenaline, and still existing out of 3 generations of rebelling punx.Latest and final formation: Fred'Front (mouth) ZenZen (4string & 2nd mouth) Jens (6string) Vettig Patje (stix).
