WELT

WELT (English definition) A ridge or lump raised on the flesh caused by a powerful lash or blow. Ex. "The beating left raw welts on the boy's back and neck" WELT hails from the crypts of the North Shore of Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Founded in early 1993 by Steve Seigerman(ex-Social Disease), with Josh Barohn(ex-Suffocation/Autopsy), and Doug Bohn(ex-Social Disease/Suffocation). Not long after, WELT was joined by long time friend and Suffocation guitarist Doug Cerrito, adding the second to last ingredient that would complete the WELT line-up. Due to personal commitments, Josh Barohn had to leave WELT and relocate to Florida. Within no time Mr. Bush(ex-Social Disease) was plucked from retirement and tossed back on to the mic..Soon after, Tommy Yarsinske was recruited on bass and became the finishing piece in the WELT puzzle. In January of 1994 WELT entered Legend Studios to record their material for the first time. This material(originally composed as a 4 song demo) was soon release as a mini-cd entitled "Paranoid Delusion" on Progress Records(now Diehard Music Worldwide). While Suffocation was on their European tour in February 1994, Steve had joined on the tour when Suffocation's manager became sick and couldn't go. He brought along a few WELT demos for the trip. Through the band Konkhra, who were touring with Suffocation on this tour, Progress Records got a hold of the tape. Progress liked what they heard. It was then that the band and label first spoke. Not unlike battered flesh, the WELT began to rise!
