About Me

I am a bass player, living in London and I have played and recorded with several bands over the years, including rock, rock 'n' roll, punk, metal, even Country & Western. I now play for rock/metal bands LOST GRAVITY and TREASON as well as THE MACHINES who are a powerful rock 'n' roll band, playing gigs and festivals all around the UK and recording a ten track album, due for release during summer 2009. I am also recording albums with both Lost Gravity and Treason during 2009.
The LOST GRAVITY and TREASON songs featured on this site are from our set list. 'Kick a Little Harder' and 'You Better Listen', I co-wrote in July 2007 with the brilliantly talented David Simon, who is singing on this demo (check him out in 'my friends ' below). David Simon has his own band, as well as doing many acoustic solo gigs. THE MACHINES tracks were co-written and co-produced with the band, and are taken from our forthcoming album. The Machines tracks featured above, along with many others, have been reviewed in a variety of magazines and fanzines, and have been played on various radio stations around the world, including America, Australia, France, Italy, Thailand, Portugal, Germany, Japan and many UK stations, with one, 'Total Rock Radio', stating on air "The Machines are pretty bloody fantastic".
In 2007 I linked up with The Tracie Hunter Band. Tracie is the daughter of rock 'n' roll legend Ian Hunter, and I played a number of gigs with her, including Stockholm in Sweden.
I mainly play a 1977 Fender Jazz bass for my gig and studio work, although I also play a 1973 Fender Precision, and I have three other Fender Jazz basses as back up. I use Marshall amplification, and I use Rotosound roundwound strings.
My style is to play solid, straight forward, no nonsense, driving bass, working fully with a powerful drummer, like my good friend in The Machines, Steve, but linking up with guitars and vocals. Not playing is just as important as picking the right notes to play. I don't like to overplay, or dominate. I like traditional 4 string basses, and not fretless. I prefer to play with a pick as it works best with the type of music I play, although I can play fingerstyle. I do not tap, slap or pop, as it's not the sort of style that goes with the music I love.
I suppose my playing style is a mix of Arthur Kane (New York Dolls) Sami Yaffa (Hanoi Rocks/New York Dolls) Cliff Williams (AC/DC) and Johan Blomquist (Backyard Babies), who for me is a perfect rock 'n' roll bass player and has a brilliant connection with drummer Peder Carlsson.

Influences: For me, it started with David Bowie, Mott The Hoople, Free, The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Then I discovered American rock 'n' roll, so it was The New York Dolls, MC5, The Ramones, The Pink Fairies and Iggy Pop & The Stooges. (I even named my third band Raw Power after The Stooges brilliant album). Then came The Clash and The Sex Pistols. Nowadays I love driving, killer rock 'n' roll bands like Backyard Babies, Hanoi Rocks and Social Distortion, as well as melodic metal bands, like AC/DC, Metallica and Dream Theater.
Sounds Like: THE MACHINES REVIEWS INCLUDE:

"Classic punk rock 'n' roll, served New York Style" - BUBBLEGUM SLUT FANZINE.

"Fast, yet melodic punk, more Iggy Pop than Sex Pistols" - NOISY! FANZINE.

"Their sound contains something fresh and vibrant" - STREET VOICE EZINE.

"The Machines are pretty bloody fantastic" - TOTAL ROCK RADIO.

"You guys still have an incredibly honest sound" - LUCY HELL, MYSTERY ISLAND, U.S.A. www.mysteryisland.net

"We describe their sound as free, strong and independent" - LONDON MUSIC DIRECTORY.
