About Me

In his own unique brand he calls “Conscious Acoustic Rock,” Chris Chavez combines emotional folk, acoustic rock, and eastern influences in the vain of Richie Havens, Ben Harper, and Led Zeppelin.
A native son of New Mexico, Chris was born into a family of musicians whose roots span most continents. At the age of three, Chris began bashing his first drum set and also learned to play simple melodies on his brother’s guitar – a combination that would eventually manifest itself in Chris’ unique style of playing percussion-guitar and playing two guitars at once.
After completing college, Chris relocated to London and quickly gained the attention of both audiences and icon radio personalities such as Johnnie Walker and Bob Harris of the BBC. From London, Chris embarked on two world tours promoting his first two CDs, which he released on his own independent label, Zambra Music.
Chris’ recent EP release, The Observer produced by noted studio veteran Clif Norrell (Jeff Buckley, Sting, R.E.M., The Noisettes), focuses on Chris’ passionate solo acoustic performances; from the title track The Observer, telling a tale of soul searching and enlightenment; followed by the cathartic and pleading What I Need is A Miracle, expressing the frustrations of the spiritual journey through an emotionally charged lyrical-prayer; to the powerful and dramatic song, Baghdad's Alight, vividly describing the tragic ravages of war.
Chris recently completed a US tour supporting highly original and earthy UK recording artists Bat for Lashes (Parlophone), gaining plenty of new fans and respect in the process. Joining him on the album and select shows was percussionist Jamie Morrison of UK buzz band The Noisettes.
Chris’ music has been called “The most amazing thing I’ve ever seen” in a Radio ONE interview with DJ Johnnie Walker, as well as “technically ingenious and physically remarkable,” by Tobias Hill with The Sunday Telegraph, London.
Chris’ notable live appearances and performances include:
MTV/VH-1 Take it to the Bridge – London
NZ ONE – New Zealand’s National News
CRY TV - Music Television – New Zealand
BBC Radio ONE with Johnnie Walker
BBC Radio TWO with Bob Harris
GLR Greater London Radio with Johnnie Walker
BBC World Service with Bob Harris
KPFK 90.7 “Global Village” Los Angeles
