Izzi Ramkissoon is an award-winning composer/engineer/bassist/performer and producer. His laptop and his bass are the control centers of his sound. As a composer his composition Sub-ter-ain Frequencies 5.1 won the 2007 Look & Listen Festival Composition Prize (NYC). A New York City native Izzi draws on his experiences of the downtown NYC nightlife (club/bar/art) circuit, technology and the academic world to create a blend of dance, jungle, reggae, hip- hop, punk, jazz, classical and improvised music. Izzi plays the electric, synth and acoustic bass in multiple ensembles in the Tri-State area. He also leads his own multimedia ensemble CrackCodez in NYC.
As a performer he has played numerous venues including The Public Theater, The Stone, The Flea Theatre, The TANK, The Robert Miller Gallery, The Sullivan Room, Studio 54, CBGB’s and Webster Hall. Izzi has performed with fellow artist Vernon Reid, Corey Dargel, Gustavo Aguilar, Cristian Amigo, Guillermo Cardenas, Rami El Aasser, DJ Brak, Mary Jane Leach, David Keberle, Barton McLean and The LAByrinth Theater Company as well as played on the same bill as artist such as John Zorn, Ethel, Flux Quartet, QQQ, ICE (International Composers Ensemble), Brian Sacawa, Daedalus Quartet and So Percussion.
Izzi has earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Staten Island majoring in both Electrical Engineering and Music Tech Composition and Performance. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s at NYU in Music Technology, composing music for various media including television and film, freelancing as a live sound engineer and playing gigs. He is now preparing to make his solo debut with his electro-acoustic compositions.
