R.E.Z

After a decade in the hip hop scene, one man still stands strong with pride, ambition and power. R.E.Z started way back in 1996 with his homeboys Rudeboy G, Sam Sneeze, MC Kerambit and JR to form a group called Da’ Joint. Da’ Joint, along with its extended family, Ruffneck Clique, made a name for themselves in the Malaysian underground hip hop scene. They performed at numerous gigs around Malaysia including the DMC Championship, Tribute to Tupac & Biggie, and many more gigs that was a first for states such as Melaka and Johor.
Da’ Joint got their big break in 2000 when their hit single “B.A.N.G.S.A.R” hit the Malaysian Top 10 charts on hitz.fm. It was followed up by their next single “Livin’ In The Streets” which featured the legendary Adibah Noor. In 2001, Da’ Joint released 3 new songs on the compilation album Message For The Masses Volume 1 & 2 alongside Ruffneck Clique members, Kid Sydee, Jimmy Jump, & iQ.
In 2001, R.E.Z decided to part ways with Da’ Joint and pursue a solo career. That same year, he got to hook up with Malaysia’s Queen of Rock, Ella. Ella’s album “Ilham Bicara” featured two songs by R.E.Z in which they collaborated on, “Nan Berbeza” and “Cendawan Dan Serangga.” In 2003, R.E.Z got another chance to show his skills on Ella’s album, “Simbiosis,” and wrote a track called “Kau Saja Yang Tahu.” That same year, Da’ Joint released their album, “Sound Therapy,” which featured R.E.Z on their hit single, “Kancil.”
Other notable big shows in which R.E.Z performed at includes; the Commonwealth Games 1998, Dari Studio Satu Astro, Konsert Ella @ Jerudung Park Brunei, Anugerah Planet Music, and the World Cup 2006 Finals party at Bukit Bintang.
A decade on after he first started, R.E.Z is now set to release his first solo album, Dunia R.E.Z. Produced by Ruffneck Clique member, Kerambit, Dunia R.E.Z features acts and artistes such as Reefa, iQ, Mr.D, Pluck, Jimmy Jump, and Kid Shydee. R.E.Z, influenced by acts such as Cypress Hill, Fundoobiest, Method Man, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Incubus, has infused elements of both hip hop and rock into his album as to not constrain himself into one genre. With Dunia R.E.Z, R.E.Z plans not to follow, but to lead the way.
