- - - - - - - DELORENTOS: Dublin-based 4-piece Delorentos release one of the most hotly anticipated Irish albums of 2007, In Love With Detail, on nascent Irish independent label Cottage on 20 April.
The band drifted together in the usual fashion……… inspired by boredom, creative energy, and a passion for music - obvious reference points are Pixies, The Cure, The Clash and Arcade Fire; more oblique influences slide in from most genres of music and virtually every decade from the 50s onwards. Over a period of time that saw others attempt to tie down a description of their sound, they holed up in the wilds of Portrane, Co Dublin (“It’s an amazing place to make music and a key factor in the Delorentos sound.”) and concentrated on writing songs, pure and simple. They had no interest in the frills and fripperies or the empty bombast that occupy other bands; for them it has always been about 4 people communing to harness honest emotion, fashion melodic hooks, and roll out infectious rhythms. They tested the water on the live circuit and immediately stood out as a band capable of pulling off fresh, gutsy live performances. With a seemingly insatiable appetite for gigging they honed their live show and began to build a reputation as a band for the smart money to keep an eye on.
THE FLAWS: The Flaws release their debut album 'Achieving Vagueness' on Friday the 14th of September on their own independent label Arrivals Records.
The album was recorded at Grouse Lodge and Tumbleweed Studios and mixed at Apollo by Gareth Mannix.
2007 has been a very busy and productive year for the band so far, starting with their performance on 'Other Voices' in February, described perfectly by John Kelly himself as some 'noisy dirty rock 'n' roll'. The band then took part in the 2FM 2moro 2our playing 12 shows nationwide in 10 days, they also played some excellent support slots with The Fratellis in Spring and Airbrake and Editors in Mandela Hall.
A recently signed publishing deal with Zapala and festival appearances at 'Irlanda In Festa' in Italy and The Melt Festival in Germany has lead to the imminent release of the album in these and other European territories.
The Flaws are have just finished touring as special guests with The Thrills ,have played Le Cheile, Castlepalooza, and Indie-Pendence Festivals, and will also play Feile Beo and Electric Picnic Festivals before the end of the summer.
After this years success with Childline Rocks Dublin & Galway, Childline Rocks returns with a top show being organised across in Athlone for Ireland’s best known listening service for children. The evening’s performers will waiver all fees so that Childline Rocks is a complete charity event.
