About Me
My name is Conrad-Jason Teheiura Itchener, but most of my friends know me as Kabuki. As a polynesian artist I'm Tahiki. I was born in California and raised on O'ahu, Hawai'i. My father came from Tahiti to Hawai'i back in the 60's. He was as a Tiki carver for Don Over, and as a musician he's performed with some of Hawaii's best shows-Elaine Frisby's Pukapuka Otea, Tavana's, Teri'i's South seas revue, Kalo's, not to mention Bar Lea's in Tahiti, Emma Mariterangi, and more. He taught me so much about the music and culture of our islands and remains a big influence and inspiration to me. My mom was also a hula dancer and painter. She raised me and brought me to the San Francisco bay area, where I learned more about contemporary music. My buddy Robe actually got me started on bass in 8th grade, and really stretched my ears and abilities by introducing me to a world of crazy shit-jazz, fusion, avant-gard, wacky stuff, but I always kept my Polynesian soul with it. I've worked with many Poly groups as musician and dancer, in Hawai'i, California, Japan, Colorado, and Florida,and played with many, many diverse musical groups, frop bebop to punk, classic soul and R&B, hardcore to hip-hop, covers, originals, live recording, remote sessions, whatever. I love to play, and I love to play with interesting, talented and creative people. And I love to create. I'm currently working as a reef artist and sculptor up in Stuart, Florida, and as a musician with the MaiKai Islanders Polynesian Revue at the MaiKai in Fort Lauderdale.I love to make things- artificial coral reefs, rocks, trees, and during my free time- Tiki's, Tiki-Taki-To, Samoan fire knives, Tahitian to'ere carver, Tattoo design....Evenings you'll find me playing with a couple of south Florida groups, performing dance/funk/soul at some local clubs, maybe working on my artwork, doing sessions, brainstorming.
