A FEW WORDS ABOUT HARIS ARONIS

Haris Aronis, a new presence in the Greek music stage, is not only a performer but a songwriter too, as he signs both as a composer and as a lyricist the songs that he performs. In the way he sings, and even more in his lyrics and his melodies, he “marriages” in an especial way some opposite characteristics: lyricism with dynamism, myth with familiarity, meditation with immediacy, daydream with vividness, and generally, quality with popularity. These combinations seal his music entity, which although has roots and stands with respect on older values (carrying sometimes something imperceptible from the magic scent of older times’ hearings), in the same time it has current look, brings new colors, fresh sound and alternative aesthetics.

The most distinctive feature of Haris Aronis is, that he manipulates with flexibility not only different issues and feelings, but also different music forms and genres. In that way, he achieves something difficult: on the one hand he maintains an easily identified personal style, and on the other hand his songs are not alike with each other.

Haris Aronis studied at Ionidios Exemplary School of Piraeus and afterwards he graduated as a Surveying Engineer of the National Technical University of Athens. He was born and grew up in Egaleo (a west suburb of Athens, Greece), the so-called “City” by the unforgettable famous Greek folk composer, sui-generis bouzouki performer and singer, George Zambetas. That great musician, as a close family friend, played an important role for the modulation of Haris Aronis’ music idiosyncrasy, culture and breadth of his music hearings. This because, at a time when Haris Aronis was a teenager and stated himself exclusively as a rock music fun, the “plethoric” presence of Mr Zambetas was the spur, the inspiration to shatter the music “walls” for Haris, making him to give more attention to Greek folk music. All started in one afternoon at his home yard, where the “teacher” gifted him a guitar, just after playing some improvisation… As Haris Aronis himself tells: «…as long as I live, I will never forget how, from a lifeless wooden piece, two hands, identical as doves, could take out such spirit and magic.… I can’t forget those fat fingers, which you wonder how they can be so supple, so quick and make so sweet sound in the same time…». This admiration and “jealousy”, was the basic spark for Haris Aronis to learn to play the guitar and begin after a while to write his own songs.

It is the first time now, that Haris Aronis publishes his own project, with only two exceptions: the song “O likos tis psixis mou (the wolf of my soul)” which the Greek rock band “Magic de Spell” included in their album “Nipson anomimata mi monan opsin”, and the song “Pou girnas (Where are you hang around)”, which is included in the recent album “Spasmena Rologia (Broken watches)” of Nikos Maintas. As Haris Aronis says, he wishes only this: his songs to be singed, to be danced or just to be whispered accompanying personal moments of people, moments of love, happiness, sadness, loneliness, people’s dead-ends, journeys, fellowships, in one phrase, to become the music background to lone or common paths…
