Michael Livingston’s versatility as a musical artist is incomparable. The Spanish Reggae phenomenon has definitely earned a place in history as one of the fore-runners of the reggae/cross-over genre. His unique approach and interpretation of reggae music has been highly commended and rewarded by many established members of the music industry, both artistes and producers alike.
Michael Livingston's illustrious career began at the tender age of five, when he became active in the Church through his extraordinary singing ability. This recognized by Church elders, he was encouraged to play musical instruments and taught to write music. Born of the unique combination of Jamaican and Hispanic parents, his niche in music seemed carved, for Michael Livingston has managed to combine both the flavors of his genealogical background and create an unparalleled and unique sound. Thus, during Michael's talented history, he produced the first Spanish Reggae in musical history†Bob Marley En Español" Tribute to Bob Marley.
Michael Livingston is truly a man of many talents, setting the pace for many other Spanish reggae artist such as El General, Nando Boom and Projecto Uno.
Whilst sojourning in Costa Rica, Michael Livingston fine tuned his musical skills and perfected his bilingual ability, enabling him to play Latin music with some of popular local Latin bands. It was here he began to see the future in Reggae and Spanish music combined and was selected to go to Spain to represent Costa Rica at the FITUR Festival. It was a success. He also participated in a Latin-Reggae group called KAZAMBA, one of his first groups that he experimented with the blend of Latin music and Reggae which was that we call now reggaeton; which was very popular in Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico,performed in concerts groups such as D.L.G and Elvis Crespo.
Michael Livingston has performed in prestigious events and locations such as The World Famous Apollo Theater, Reggae Sunsplash(Montego, Bay, Jamaica)and The "Tribute to Bob Marley Concert" accompanied by Judy Mowatt formerly of the I-Trees, and Marley Fest(Alajuela, Costa Rica).
Not limited to the performance side of the music industry, Michael Livingston pursued an education in audio engineering,he subsequently established his professional recording studio in the heart of Harlem, New York. From this emerged his cable television shows, of which he's both producer and host;†Hip Hop Reggae Connection" and†Conversations with Livingston" both are successful in their own right. The first one as a music video program and the second one was an interviews and talk program with guest: Bennie Man, Spragga Benz, Capleton, Sugar Minott, KRS One, Jim Rogers, and Ralph Cooper to name a few.
Michael Livingston has worked with many reggae international artist such as: Augustus Pablo, Sister Carol, Nardo Ranks, Action Fire, Chicho Man, Culture Runaway, AZ, Bunny Brissett, El General, Turbulence, Junior Reid, Judy Mowatt to name a few.Recently three of his songs where choice to represent Costa Rican Reggae music; one project Latin Gunz from Quicksilver chose the song "Rude Boy" to be the sound track for the video displaying Costa Rica's beaches and the nations best surfers including nature sites. The other two tracks where chosen Papaya Music to be in Costa Rica Reggae Night Cd a compilation of Costa Rica National artist cd, "Corrupted Politicians" and "Psalm Up Revelations" where the songs chosen to be amongst Costa Rica finest reggae tracks in one distributed mainly through out Central & South America.
Now Michael Livingston presents his new material "NATURAL" cd that has 16 tracks mainly roots reggae with a touch of ska and dancehall, always with Livingston conscious and social lyrics the cd contains a booklet with all the lyrics the video "Sweet Sweet Loving" recipient of the best video digital category of the year "Los de la casa" 2008.Material made in Costa Rica with an excellent quality project.
