About Me

So here I am, been meaning to get onto this self promotion thing for a while but been just plain lazy. I'm Neil and I've been a DJ of one kind or another for over 10 years now. I started my journey playing techno by the likes of Slam, Claude Young, Joey Beltram, Jeff Mills etc. After this I got into the Belfast party scene around 1998 and played at many house parties all over Belfast and the rest of NI. During this time I was playing funky house, hip hop and breaks by the likes of Wiseguys, Cut la Roc, Les Rythmes Digitales, Fatboy Slim, Bob Sinclar and many more. On discovery of Bedlam at Giro's I began on the most successful part of my DJ career as it inspired me to rediscover my roots again and start playing techno. Shortly after this (and following several crazy nights at a remote cottage in the Mourne Mountains listening to dirty as fuck techno with Sean and Jeff- cheers for the reminder Sean) led to the start of my involvement with KRAFT @ Giro's... This night started out as a birthday party for a friend and grew from there. It was on this night that I cut my teeth as a serious club DJ. Over the next 3 years I played a major role in its organisation and DJ'ed regularly as a resident under the collective name of Shaolin Punks alongside other regular residents Chump, Rony Lee, and Graham Morrow (G1). I played warm up sets for the likes of AD, Fabulous 23's, Giselle, Mark Tyler, Lenny Dee, Mike Humphries, and Glenn Wilson. Through the recognition that came from this I played other gigs in Belfast for Protocol & Perpetual in the Front Page and the Menagerie, and I had the honour of helping bring hard techno to Bangor as resident for Relapse @ Bar Fifteen. After a year out in Australia I came back to a Belfast which was pretty deserted of good underground nights out. A chance reunion with old friends Sean and Conor led to the formation of Deviant Soundsystem and (long overdue) monthly techno nights in the Attic Arts Centre. This went from strength to strength and moved to the Front Page where it still resides to this day. I recently moved away from playing techno and started collecting house and breaks again which I am now into in a big way.Watch this space for news of a new house/ breaks/ electro/ minimal/ funk night starting in the autumn or winter of this year.I love music. No matter what it is. As long as there's a good crowd of people enjoying it then I just love it. There's no greater buzz than seeing a bunch of party goers getting a real kick out of the records you're playing.
