'Da Muthas were formed in the latter part of the previous mellinium, when longtime rhythm section, Steve Newton and Darrell Young, were determined it was time to put together the best party/cover band around. There was no question who would be the guitarist. Ken Johnson, a New Jersey native, was a recent NC transplant, but had the most incredibale chops of anyone they had met in decades. Plus, he sang, played mouth harp and the meanest lapsteel guitar around. Randy Dickey, a NC native, but living and touring in FL, had just moved back into the area, and his vocal capabilities are legendary! It was a no-brainer. All that was left, was to fill the keyboard position. They didn't have to look far. Jay Miller, a local multi-instumentalist, was available, and perfect for the position. Keys, tenor sax, guitar, vocals. He's the whole package.
The band plays selective gigs, about 6 to 7 times a year. So, it surely doesn't get burned out. Always playing great songs from the 50's thru the 90's, with more energy than a 5 year old on Ritalin. Randy's stage presence keeps crowds on their feet and on the dance floor. Using a wireless mic system allows him to mingle with everyone in the club, getting them into the show, whlie the energy from the band keeps folks moving!
If you haven't attended a "Muthas" show, shame on you.....It seems eveywhere they go, a huge party breaks out!!!
