The Midlands is a funny place, a place of great musical pedigree, yet despite this the area has only threw up the enemy and to an extent the twang to sing about in the past decade or so. Fast forward on 2 years after the entrance of the enemy onto the music scene, comes a band from a small but dark robust little town; Bedworth outside the concrete jungle that is Coventry. The town known as the home of Pete Doherty in his teen years, and a town that is crying out for an injection of life and for something genuinely new that can make a real impact: a band that draws inspiration from its bleak surroundings, whilst still moving it forward. Enter the west midlands bright new hopes JUST MORALE......
JUST MORALE are an intense Rock and roll outfit with passion, desire, drive and heart and thay are completely fearless with any obstacle put in front of them. They are a group of mates in their late teens who formed in the spring of 2008 and spent the rest of that year playing the dusty pubs of Bedworth and Coventry, honing their craft in the live arena where they are truly beginning to excel. Perry’s intense vocals and jagged guitar account beautifully paired up with the impressive lead breaks of Peter Ludgate, underpinned by the rhythm section of Bailey & browny, and gusty energetic vocal of Kenballs, who engages the crowd like a young Iggy pop..... locked away in a warehouse on an industrial estate in a bleak district in between Coventry and Bedworth the band have been rapidly writing tunes with more hooks than a fisherman’s box, heartfelt and real lyrics with a heart so raw it makes a bleeding steak look bbq'd.
There are flashes of inspiration from the legends of their area, Pete Doherty / Libertines / The Enemy, as well as new influences from the current shoe gaze movement and a sprinkle of the great mods past to the punk spit of Johnny thunders, the dead boys and the clash. Just Morale strike a rare balance between razor sharp rock and roll, heartfelt lyrics in a sonic soup of noise and an abundance of adrenalin which all combine to make something with energy, atmosphere and spirit.
Their sound embodies the atmosphere of their surroundings, whilst remaining distinctive and innovative, a combination that sets them apart from the usual bunch of shanty-chanting mockneys, and shows clearly that this is the start of something special. Their energy and spirit caught the eyes of John Dawkins the founder of the enemy who put them in the studio with Matt Terry (Enemy/Razorlight/One night only/Boy kill boy.) The result that came from the session was a tune called "hold on tight" a slice of rock n roll that sounds like the stooges spitting out the libertines.
Live, the band are immense. They have crafted a rip-roaring show brimming with energy and confidence, which combined with their HUGE local fan base has seen them sell out 600 capacity venues in their home town and they are now demanding attention at shows across the country. Shows with, the view, babyshambles and young knives have shown they more than hold there own, and they now have promoters chomping at the bit, and the MORALE bandwagon goes from strength to strength, since then many more have sat up and taken notice.
