Shon Penn
Biography Dyshon, Singer/ Songwriter/ Performer has been honing his craft in NY & Philly since he left home at age 16 after he was told by a then unsupportive father that he had to cease doing secular music with the vocal group he had joined. That very night Dyshon moved out and hasn't looked back. Now at 22yrs old this powerful songwriter and incredible performer has garnered the respect of his peers and even his pop has given up trying to persuade him to seek another path! Dyshon has been around and is a student of the business as much as his craft. Always studying the billboard charts and the credits of albums from hip-hop to country! He is influenced by all the usual suspects from Micheal, Stevie, & Donny, to R. Kelly & Jay-Z. He understands that melody makes hits but lyrics make classics! He is a top notch storyteller and is making the music that will be hits of today and the classic remakes of tomorrow! He also loves to move on stage & is a talented dancer and when the music is moving you cant keep him still! His dues have been paid from basement studios to Daddy House (Badboys studio), Battery Studios (Jive in-house studios) , and currently working along side various producers & writers in Philly from Hoomcookin (Carvin & Ivans' production house) to Phillytown (lab for the Matrax). He has also helped vocal produce many local artist and is the host of an Artist spotlight night known as PhillyUnplugged. This young veteran has constantly been on stage up & down the east coast and frequently brings his original style to the stage even at the Village Underground. A true sanger!, he has captured audiences with his edgy sound and often performs his original material in front of these audiences with overwhelming success and is poised to take on the world stage next!

Diddy's
Making The Band A panel of judges traveled across the country to find 58 men with the most potential of being in a successful men's performing group. Diddy picks 20 men including Dyshon. The men are split up into five groups of four and chose a song to perform for Diddy and the other judges. Along with his fellow roomates Julius, Brian Harris and Mike, Dyshon's group named theirselves "Legit." During an intense work out session, Dyshon gets sick and is taken to the hospital but bounces back like the soldier he is. Diddy gives the contestants a grueling series of tasks to take place around New York that must be completed as a team. Dyshon completes the tasks along with singing with a homeless man=priceless. Next Legit performs at legendary B.B King's singing "It's so hard to say goodbye" by Boyz II Men. After their performances an impressed Diddy decides to cut only four of the guys rather than ten, Dyshon makes the cut. Diddy surprises the contestants by revealing he will continue searching for new talent, namely four new performers. Eleven applicants impress Diddy and his team, earning a spot on the team. The new contestants are given a tour of the house, where the establish competitors are caught napping. Angered at their lack of motivation, Diddy initiates a competition on the spot to determine who will remain on the show later that night. Dyshon's competitor was Jeremic, who wound up making it into the house but no one was taking his bed!! The guys get off to a rocky start, as the old guys don't trust the new guys right away. They soon "warm up" to each other as they engage in a 5 mile run issued by Diddy. Ankh Ra splits the boys into groups and has them pick a song to perform a couple nights later for Diddy. (Dyshon's group; Dyshon, Jeremic, Robert, Dan, Song: "Ain't No Woman") The main conflict with the group is Robert losing rehearsal time due to spending an hour mending his relationship on the phone. After their group performs for Ankh Ra and Mike they suggest that they practice more. They do and everything works out which lead to Diddy being stumped at elimination and does not cut anyone due to the excellent performances, to the surprise of all. He then turns the tables and chooses Dyshon, Donnie, Dan, Robert, DeAngelo, and Willie to choose who goes. Only two guys, not surprisingly, both new leave, Jeremic and Devin. The guys are tested in a series of physical tests including basketball and boxing. Diddy gets upset when he has to make his cut because he realizes that Laurie Ann didn't follow his orders to have the guys rehearse all weekend instead of just for eight hours the day of the cut. In the end, no surprise..Dyshon makes the cut. It's almost the finale, the guys are being tested on their dancing, singing, and overall performance-- the total package. The boys get a new choreographer named Jamal, and they seem to like him better than Laurie Ann because he actually breaks the dance steps down slowly until each guy gets it. They go to Spotlight to perform for Diddy, who will be basing tonight's information on dancing, singing, performance, improvement, determination, and their past weeks here in New York. In the end, only Julius and Carlos were cut. The guys were then told to go home for two months and come back looking like superstars. After all the contestants arrive back from their long break at home they are immediately reunited together at the airport with all 10 members. The guys reveal what they did over their break as some reveal they performed, worked on their voices, and took dance classes. The guys meet back up in the same park where they are informed that they will be performing at the Beacon Theater where they will open up for New Edition infront of a sold out crowd. The guys go to meet Ankah to practice their songs and work on their voices and are put into 2 groups. (Dyshon's group; Dyshon, Brian Andrews, Donnie, Qwanell, Mike) Dyshon comes up with the name "5th City" being as they are all from 5 different cities. Tension is caused because Dyshon wants to wear a white jacket for their performance, Mike thinks he is just trying to stand out. The guys are introduced at the concert by Slam and immediately the show begins. Both groups do a good job but in the end it's Flo that got the louder cheer from the crowd. The remaining 10 people get interviewed by Diddy; Dyshon is asked about wearing the white jacket. The guys receive information that they will be getting makeovers and be featured in a Sean John photo shoot. Diddy and his entourage meet in a room to deliberate on people who could possibly make the band and he reveals his feelings towards certain people and his ideas, until he tells the camera man to turn the camera off. Ankh Ra tells Diddy "Dyshon has been consistantly working", Diddy says he thinks Dyshon has what it takes to "be somebody." The guys go to S.I.R Studios where they meet diddy who has surprisingly arrived before them are told to stand in line against the wall. Diddy begins by calling people out and making them stand in line and sending people back and forth rearranging the group until he calls for music, Dyshon was in the last four standing. He tells them to sing. After all the guys sing they are immediately shocked by Diddy's walking out of the room without saying anything. Diddy then tells everyone he needs help making the band; log onto makingtheband.mtv.com to vote for your favorite person, then the band will be made on August 26th LIVE. On the night of the grand finale of Making The Band 4, a huge crowd stood outside of the MTV studio in Times Square, anxious to see who Diddy would pick to make the band. The ten finalists started the show by singing "End Of The Road," and it would truly be the end of the road for some of the ten hopefuls. Joining Sway to talk about the show were Michael Bivins, Bryan Cox, Ankh Rah, the new choreographer Jamaica, and of course Diddy. Diddy greeted the screaming fans and explained that he wanted to do something different this season by leaving them with a cliffhanger. It worked because this season of Making The Band was the best. Diddy split the guys into two groups to perform the same song. First, DeAngelo, Dyshon, Robert and Donnie performed a New Edition classic, "If It Isn't Love." Next, Brian H., Brian A., Mike, Jeremy and Willie performed the same song complete with smooth dance moves. With so many truly talented singers, Diddy had a hard choice to make, but it was time to make a decision. The first cut...Dyshon. Diddy notes that he'll make a great solo artist. We wish all the luck in the world to him!!
