I'm Brad S. AKA DJ Prometheus. I was Born in 1973 in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I started clubbing at age 16. I went to my first Rave at 17. That was 1990. I spent 4 years going to parties and clubs in the midwest. I had a shitty turntable, a cd player and a tape deck. I had a bunch of records mostly industrial stuff like Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 still do. I went out and bought every "RAVE" cd there was. I was so clueless. I went to the parties loved the music but every Cd I bought had happy hardcore and I liked some of it but I wondered where I could get the music I was hearing at parties. In 1994 a buddy of mine was a real live DJ. His name was Dan and his handle was DJ Alterlife from Minneapolis. He changed my life by showing me a mixer and he explained a lot. In 1995 I moved to Houston Texas. He gave me advice that I will never forget. Buy Technics 1200's don't learn on belt drive turntables. I fully understand now 12 years later. I met a local and she introduced me to the scene while I was buying gear and learning how to mix. She showed me where the record stores were, took me to clubs and parties. Now that I was going to be a DJ I had to have a name. In 1994 I had attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. I took a few mythology classes and really liked it. In 1995 when I decided to become a DJ I chose DJ Prometheus. I have to be clear on this, Prometheus stole fire from the heavens and gave it to man. I chose it as a metaphor for bringing good music to the people. Never mind the fact that he was punished. While in Houston I got to meet a lot of the Houston DJs Like Bizz, Chris Anderson, Abiel, Jetboy, KC, Kung Fu Pimp, X-it, BMC, Zakaos, Phlid, Michael Degrace, Mark D and more. I went to most of the cool clubs like SOME and Rich's etc. I spent some time hanging out at KTRU 91.7 fm down at Rice university. I got into the Houston scene for a while then I moved to Huntsville to go to SHSU. In 1997 I was Deejaying in my bedroom with the window open when I guy looked in and said something like "Holy Shit your'e a DJ can I come in and watch?" I was like "Uh ok.". That fella would be Ryan W a music major at SHSU. Another pivotal moment for me. This viola player explained music theory to me. (you know measures, beats, tempo.) We got to be friends and he called me up one day to say I know some girls that need a Dj for a party called Lion Hunt. I said what the hell is a Lion Hunt? Turns out in April 1998 I got to play for a live crowd for the first time. Ryan eventually bought my original turntables and became quite a Dj himself. In May thanks to those girls I played for at Lion Hunt I got my first venue at a club. I played there but it was mostly commercial stuff, Hip Hop, Rock etc. That gave me the experience with playing for a live audience. I started throwing parties with other like minded DJs. That led to the first ever after hours in Huntsville at a club called Quarters. I have to thank Lisa and Ed for that (The Owners). I actually can take credit for starting the only afterhours in Huntsville. I would play at the Fox til 12am the grab my crate and play at Quarters sometimes until 3am. That was 1999 and I got to meet Dj Lucky (Wade) and Jeremy (miss you guys by the way). I also met Chris during this time a DJ from Livingston. I also met Blind Profit, Tico and Nabu. This led to the highpoint of my career so far. I held a party in Huntsville, TX at Quarters called "Heaven's Gate." 14 Deejays, Two rooms, we played til 5am and I got to Headline. Heaven's Gate by the way was my first mix Cd. Later on I met Eric DJ Sicarious and Shawn DJ Swiftee. They got into Deejaying after meeting me and going to Quarters. The after-hours eventually got nixed but DJ Sicarious and DJ Lucky got to Dj for Paragon. One night when I was playing after hours at Quarters I had a guy come up to me in the Dj Booth and say "Hey I'm DJ Elementz from Houston can I play some records?". I was like, "Sure just dig through the crates.". A few years later someone got me to go down to a club in the Woodlands called Outer limits. I got in and went to check out the Dj. He gets off the decks and says "Prometheus what's up remember me?". He said "Come on lets mix!". So I dug through his crates and started playing. The owners heard me that night and said they wanted to bring me down. That venue is gone but Elementz actually let me play alongside him in Houston a few times. That's good karma. Thanks Joe. I threw a few parties with my friends in Huntsvegas and I just kind of got away from the scene. I took it back to the studio and started the Sunday club with Craig (DJ Nemesis) He's stationed in Germany and currently deployed to tha sandbox. Every Sunday my friends and I would get together at my house and mix. We had like a Jedi Order thing going on. We would invite random new people into the group. Alex started spinning about this time. We also had Myron in the mix here and there. I retired from my venue after 9 years. That's when I met Chris Davis and Blake Silvers. I also met Liquid Pneuma a guy who took one look at my studio and said why the fuck aren't you out there doing your thing? I have been sitting on 12 crates of records for 5 years its time for DJ Prometheus to come back. It didn't take much to make me want to play electronic music again really. I just happened to meet the right people at the right time in my life.DJPThe Saga Continues: So I decided to get back into the scene around July 2007. I met a lot of new and interesting people and some really good deejays. I got back out there and played some small shows like the GRAB, Meridian and CABO. Thanks to the people who booked me for those shows. The Saga Continues: Last year (08) was great got to work with Night Culture for the first time @ Bar Rio for Tiesto what a blast. Had a great time playing the Davenport lounge as well. If you want to have a great time and meet some of Houston's finest DJS try Tasty Lick Weds hosted by James Reed. Played a few shows at Jet Lounge and some other spots as well as shows on Phatbeats.net among other things.2009 is turning out to be a great year as well. Musically I keep finding myself in a different place. Kicked off the year with shows at The Davenport, MK Ultra, Paw Paw, The Cellar and a few others. So far the highlight was playing the Davenport and Richs the same week. Two reasons, I really like the Davenport because the crowd is always filled with some of my favorite DJs and Playing Richs was really important to me. It was the first club I went to when I moved to Texas nearly 14 years ago. It was a thursday Hedonism party with DJ JD Arnold. Back then the booth was upstairs where they run lighting from these days. I wrote "What track is this? on a napkin and stuck it in the window (It was a really sick track). After it was over he put the record in the window, It was Trans Euro Express on Junior Boys Own label. I thought that was pretty kick ass of him. After that I was taken to club S.O.M.E. where I heard Michael DeGrace for the first time. He is probably responsible for about 150 of my trax on wax and what old skool clubber can get any respect without a copy of one of his old mixes.... You know half the cd was a cloudy sky and the other half was the title.I am pretty proud to be a part of Houston's music scene there is so much talent here. Its all pretty amazing to me and I'm glad to have met all of the DJs, Dancers, Promoters, Club owners and everyday people. Thanks DJP..
