Thee Flying Carpets

About Me

Thee Flying Carpets started out as a means of showcasing an influential, but frequently-forgotten genre in American music; the era of the "garage band." From 1965-1968, countless such bands drew on the influence of such British groups as The Kinks, Rolling Stones and Yardbirds, and in turn used the latest technology to add experimental twists that helped launch the birth of psychedelia -- and frequently creating memorable hit records, often by accident.Originally intending only to play obscure covers, the band quickly developed into playing all-originals, using period technology and songwriting styles to create songs reminiscent of the one-hit wonders that dominated AM radio in the period between the British Invasion and Woodstock. In addition, their live shows feature an authentic sixties light show complete with colored oil projectors. Their full-length CD "Land Behind the Mirror," is currently available on Ear X-tacy Records. A band-produced EP of earlier mixes of some songs is also available, and the band has appeared on other compilations in the Louisville area.
