Incredible things are happening in the Crossroads Arts District at 1522 Homes, home of the MyARTS program since its beginning 12 months ago. The goals of MyARTS which provide teens ages 15-19 with access to the things they need most: 1. A safe, meaningful place where they are respected for their contributions. 2. An opportunity to have a voice through exhibitions, commercial services, and public presentation. 3. The responsibility of paid employment that promotes their own economic development and acts as a springboard to post-secondary opportunities.
Over forty at risk youth have completed the 72 hour volunteer apprenticeship program which teaches the fundamentals necessary for any of our five studios both fine art and entrepreneurial skills. These youth are now operating as paid young artist working from 10-12 hours per week developing marketable, saleable products while using their creativity. Preliminary results have concluded that participants in this program have decreased their drug use, have refrained from juvenile offenses, and most important, feel better about their work skills and what they have to offer.
What are the studios? Ceramics, Graphic Design, Photography, Silk Screen, and Visual Arts. Please see images below to gain insight to the work created by the Young Artist who use their talent as their voice
