About Me

Safe, my real name is Gene Cubitt but my mates call me Gino cos they say i look Italian/French/polish etc. all my life ive loved music, it started with my parents an what they would listen to, UB40, jimmy cliff, the Beatles, the stones, bob marley, eurythmics etc.although taking all that in subconsciously it wasn't til heard (i know this is shit but at least im bein honest) vanila ice " ice ice baby" that i was caught by rap. my older brother dion understandably didnt aprove as he was into nwa, snoop dogg, cypress hill an hysteria tape packs. he got me into all that shit an before you know it im 9 years old doin my first gig on his snooker table, nwa covers while him an his boys had a smoke. anyway the pay was apt, an after a couple of gigs i could aford my first cassete single. i think it was a prodigy choon. i used ta nick his copy of snoop doggs "the dogg pound" knowin that hed give me a beating, but id do it anyway! next Christmas i get a twin cassete player with a mic feature an start doin my own mock-radio shows playin etherything from pj an duncen t0 dr.dre all this persists til the wonderful year of 96, the year i started high school an found my love for jungle! first time i was captivated by it enough to say "what the fuck is this" was when driving around in my brothers car listening to dj hype at hysteria,he was playing the infamous " chopper remix" by shy fx...BAD! My high school was, how shall i put it... quite multi cultured, an i fell in with all the hip-hop,garage an jungle heads, findin redeption in all the rollin bets an swellin basslines until one night i had an epithany watchin the dmc champions on mtv..." this is what i must do! " i saved up my pocket money for months until i could afford some shitty belt drive sound labs an a kareoke mic! the rst is how you say...history!
