Adam Bilsing

Backbeat Drummer for Hire

About Me

Born and raised in Iowa, Adam has been playing the drums since the age of 12. Starting his studies in school programs and private lessons, he began performing in bars when he was 16. Immediately struck by the desire to learn and play as much as possible, Adam furthered his education for a year at Drake University in Des Moines, IA; and finally by earning a degree in music performance from McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN. After spending five years exploring the music scene in and around Minneapolis, MN, Adam decided to move his interests to Nashville, TN.
No matter what musical situation Adam is in, it is obvious at a listen that he builds his style based on groove and pocket. He refreshingly reminds us that drummers need not be fancy to be effective, and that even the most basic feels are best when played with weight and confidence. Adam is known by those he's performed with for his strong backbeat, good meter, and professional acumen. Priding himself on being punctual and prepared, he realizes that in an industry sometimes full of fringe personalities, a drummer's job is to be reliable. Along with these traits, Adam brings a great stage presence, good look, and an easy-going personality to every gig. On stage or in the studio, dirty bar or big hall, count on Adam Bilsing to provide a solid foundation to your music.
"When Adam Bilsing was a student of mine at the McNally Smith College of Music, he dedicated himself fully to furthering his overall musicianship. Upon graduating, he quickly established himself as a respected player in the Twin Cities with his deep pocket and professional outlook. There's a lot of soul in every note he plays. There's more I could say, but instead check out his playing on Brokenheart Jones' release, Sunday Best. That says it all for me." -David Stanoch, www.rhythmelodic.com
"As a well-known, professional regional band, we take the quality of our shows very seriously. When we had an abrupt opening for a drummer, Adam Bilsing came highly recommended and arrived with a positive, eager attitude. He mastered a lot of material in a short time, filling in without any drop off in the show. He improved our performance in terms of dynamics as well as time. His success as a professional player is assured." -Darrin Rosha, JUG

Sounds Like:You name it, I'm very comfortable playing most styles. Known for my pocket and feel, good heavy backbeat, and dynamic contrast. Major influences started with Bonham, moved through classic rock drummers and ended up with cats like Levon Helm and Max Weinberg. I tend to be interested more in groove drummers and less in chop/technique drummers. I'm the biggest fan of Americana music, but love playing anything from Rock to Country to Blues etc.
