John Longbottom

About Me

John, originally from England, is a fun-loving entertainer easily switching from rollicking crowd-pleasing audience-participation songs to tender and poignant ballads.During his 20 odd, sometimes very odd, years performing in the Washington D.C. area and points North and South along the East Coast as well as the San Francisco area and many tours in Europe, John has built both a solid repertoire and reputation as a performer and as a musician. He has played with Pete Seeger, Steven Stills, Don Williams and a host of well-known Blue-Grass bands. On the Irish side, he's played with The Furey Brothers, Pete St. John, Paddy Reilly, and Danny Doyle. In addition, John has played with various Country Bands as well as the new Orleans-based group “The Celtic Folk”. Later he teamed with Paul Martin to become the “Ferrymen”, a very popular East Coast Irish duo.In-between bands John has always performed as a solo artist combining his various musical experiences and influences into an eclectic mix of American, Irish, English and Scottish folk/rock music. Not only a witty and engaging performer, loving to interact with the audience, John is also a very accomplished guitar player.John is currently playing bass and other things with Shoofly, another local band. "I like to be stretched, musically," says John.He is also involved with 3 others, Darrell, Mike and Andy, in a new venture: Village Idiots Productions trying to promote live music in the area.
