Markiee j, a native New York City musician/singer/songwriter was born in Brownsville, Brooklyn, on Sutter and Hopkinson, and grew up in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood. His musical education began with the loud, pounding, rhythmic sound of the subways, the humming of the bus to Lincoln Terrace Park, the sound of the wind flapping through the multi-colored banners hanging at the gas station and the waves crashing at Brighton Beach. Yeah, and it moved him.At the age of nine, while his friends were memorizing RBIs and ERAs, Markiee memorized the top 25 songs, the Sure Shot, the Long Shot and sang along with them all. When he was 14, he taught himself the harmonica. While woking as a bus boy at the Aladdin Hotel in Woodbourne, NY, he sang his own version of George Harrison's "Something" to a standing ovation. This just confirmed what he already knew - that he without music was like a fish out of water.At age 19, he started playing guitar and wrote his first two songs - there was no turning back.Most musicians don’t hesitate to list their influences. In Markiee’s case, you’d have to
look hard to see who has not been an influence, and then he comes up with a new flava’.
Like a chameleon who naturally changes colors and at the same time, unlike one, who
can only change from one to one other, Markiee easily shifts gears, writing and performing music ranging from hard and melodic rock, funk, rock/jazz fusion, world beat, pop/rock, adult alternative, reggae, folk rock, blues, avante garde and beyond.
