Valley Lines

Valley Lines is the main musical project of Cardiff based electronic producer and sound artist Christian Gates. Gates has been producing electronica since 2002, and in 2006 completed a degree in Sonic Art at Middlesex University. The course emphasised experimentation with sound and alternative production techniques, and had a dominant effect on Gates' approach to music production, which saw his musical output shift from simplistic electro to densely layered electronica, often incorporating sound recordings from the natural environment with complex beats and synthesised noise.The V L project was conceived as a means to combine the artist's capabilities as a producer and sound recordist with his abilities as a visual artist, with the intention of creating music which alludes to visual narrative and photographic collage.Alongside the Valley Lines project, Christian also produces music with Gwydion Ap Hywel (aka Orcop) as Birds Of Shore & Sea, has recently collaborated with pianist/songwriter Lilly Green and Orcop (as a contribution to Experimentica '08) and is currently studying an Msc in Advanced Music Production.
