Yaakov Chesed has become the fastest rising new Jewish band of the last year . The name of the group comes from a line said in the daily prayer of "oova litzeyon", which says "Teetain emet li'yaakov, chesed li'avraham." We wish to bring people into our tent of music just as our father Avraham did with his guests, and we want to do that with complete Chesed (Kindness). Yaakov Chesed combines resonating rock riffs, funky bass lines, some smooth jazz, and inspirational Hebrew and English lyrics to make an original, eclectic sound.Yaakov Chesed is comprised of:Jake Polansky (Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar)
Michael Shapiro (Lead Guitar)
Aryeh Kunstler (Bass/Back-up vocals)
Michael "Mosky" Moskowitz (Drums)The formation of the band can be described as nothing less then a true demonstration of "Hashgacha Pratis." Lead guitarist Michael Shapiro desperately wanted to attend Israel for the year, but because of extenuating circumstances he was unable to do so. Michael, in turn, attended YU. Nat Montag, a friend of lead singer Jake Polansky, met Michael at YU. It was then that Nat spontaneously put on Jake Polansky’s myspace page, and as soon as "Harmony" started playing Michael fell into a spiritual trance. Nat put Michael and Jake in contact with each other, and then followed by introducing his old high school buddy and now YC drummer "Mosky" to the band. The band has since had a bunch of great musicians join the team for various shows, including Dovi Solomon (an original member who spends most of his time in Israel) on Bass, Ben Wallick on Bass, Elan Kugel on drums, and Rami Glatt ..boards.Yaakov Chesed hopes to entertain and inspire. While much of Jewish music may seem introverted, Yaakov Chesed looks to move outside of these boundaries. With these ideals in mind, Yaakov Chesed hopes to not only reach the "religious" community, but also Jews and gentiles who have not been exposed to the sound of the alternative Jewish rock music scene.2007 YU BATTLE OF THE BANDS WINNERS!!!
