About Me

In Michigan as a kid I had raced motocross on a modified Honda 100 until a ruptured spleen in 1973 put that hobby on the back burner. The family moved out to Scottsdale AZ in 1975. Upon arriving there I saw something that right away drew my attention, everyone was buzzing around town on these cool little bikes they called BMX bikes. I had to have one! There was nothing like that in Michigan at that time. My first bike was a store bought Littlejohn with Ashtabula forks & cranks. Soon after I found myself at a local BMX track in Scottsdale and with my motocross history I thought this was the perfect sport for me. After a few races in which I collected several trophies I met some members of MOTHER'S CUSTOM MOTOCROSSERS, a small local grass roots team. I recall the team manager asking if I was any good, I told her I took 1st last week and beat Karl Rausch (a very strong racer in his day, and I don't think I told her that he had crashed!). After a couple practices with the team, I became a "MOTHER". While we weren't the best in the west, we did very well on local AZ tracks. We traveled to CA for a national against the big boys and yea we got smoked but the memories will last a lifetime and I am honored to have shared in that vintage BMX era with so many names that were the true pioneers of BMX.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Hope to hear from any of the original MOTHER'S CUSTOM MOTOCROSSERS. I cannot recall all team members but here are a few...Joe S., Russell, Mikey, Grant W., Ricky S., Barry, Ron B. and his little brother Tommy, the Miller boys, and of course Mike & Kris B., our managers.
