About Me

Jon Slow’s recipe of textured, melodic chord progressions, energetic strumming, and bottomless well of songwriting inspiration have always been the watermark of his musical endeavors. Influences including The Who, Live, Colin Hay, David Gray, DMB and the Beatles shine through on his repertoire of originals and covers. This sound first took hold in the modern rock group Wouldshed, featuring acclaimed vocalist Nici and cutting edge Worrystone bassist Steve Voller. Wouldshed supported national acts in Chicago and Detroit, received airplay on Detroit-Windsor modern rock radio giant 89X and on Fred Geobold’s “The Light Show” on WBAI New York. Jon also spent time moonlighting with Whirling Road guitarist Chris Peters, playing flute for Kid Rock’s second acclaimed CD “The Polyfuze Method”.
The first incarnation of the Jon Slow Band took shape on the eve of the millennium in New York City as a melodic power trio, which also featured drummers Tony Yannios (of Brooklyn-based the Pelicans), Phil Bloom (the Churchills) and former Elixir bassist/mastermind Al “Issues” Cooke. Al and Tony also performed on Wouldshed’s 2nd release “Welcome to Nine” and the Jon Slow Band release “Windmill Place” with Hedcase guitarist/producer Jeff Prescott. Jon, Al and Tony worked closely to enhance tight arrangement skills and shine the spotlight on dynamics. A monthly spot at Bleecker Street’s classic venue The Elbow Room was a regular highlight that was always packed to the rafters.
Jon later moved home base to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina – known as the music hotspot of the “Triangle”, where Jon crossed paths with former Prodigys bassist Ted Williams and drummers Chris Minnis (of Nashville’s The Excuses) and John Bartee (of the Alcoholidays). A productive year of touring led to headlining gigs at historic venues such as Raleigh’s The Brewery and Chapel Hill’s The Cave, enhancing the power and harmonic intricacies of the group’s original compositions. Jon and Ted moved headquarters back to the Big Apple to conquer bigger and better things.
Jon has commenced recording on a new songlist, collaborating with compatriots to create a chemistry bursting with fresh song craft, aggressive intensity, pure energy and the time-tested formula of complexity meets simplicity - less is more. Catch Jon Slow at a venue near you (stripped-down acoustic and/or as a rock combo, with an impressive array of originals and covers) on the current campaign to take over the East Coast.
