Believe it or not, The Black Rainbows weren't always a band. Before coming together they were lost and dispersed in the suburban community referred to as Maple. Confused front man & guitarist, Mike, was working a boring security job at the Children's Aid Society, which was conveniently equipped with a piano on the upper levels, and thus, the song writing process began. Meanwhile, bass player, Renato had also pursued some form of law enforcement keeping a watchful eye on inappropriate internet use and shushing children at a local library. Guitarist, Fortunato was less fortunate in finding employment and had to settle for a stock position at an all women's clothing store, only because he was referred to management by ex-employee and drummer, Sergio. He also suffers from a sleeping disorder which causes him to sleep the majority of the day, and the very little spare time he did acquire was for the most part used to satisfy his World of Warcraft addiction. Sergio was attending York University trying to obtain a major in percussion after he was booted out of his criminology program for not maintaining the ridiculously high average that was needed to advance. Law enforcement was definitely a passion for these young musicians who sometimes question what had stopped them from calling themselves The Police.At this point the four of them had never played as a group. Each member was involved in their own projects with different influences. At times one would jam with the other, but it wasn't until Renato and Mike started writing songs on a regular basis when The Black Rainbows began to form. What started as a couple jam sessions in Mike's tiny cluttered bedroom had evolved to jam sessions in Sergio's basement. It was a crummy old basement with poor lighting but he spent hours turning it to a functional pad with television, cable, a couch, and a working telephone. Unfortunately Sergio's immigrant mother was driven to insanity by all the noise which lead her to chase everyone out with a wooden spoon in one hand and a slipper in the other. After being kicked out of his own home, Sergio had aspirations of starting his own music school in which he did with the help of an existing music school. The program was launched and venue type facility was created but eventually the clientele diminished and the facility was used solely for personal development. Thus, a jam space was born for The Black Rainbows, fully equipped with all the instruments and junk they would need to create and expand their music without time restrictions.Mike and Renato introduced the idea of forming a band to Sergio. Skeptical at first, Sergio listened to the chord progressions and song concepts and began to drum away. Refusing to accommodate his drum styles and patterns, they all learned to become accustomed to each other and accept one another's ideas. They were finally functional and active as a three piece band. Despite their efforts, they couldn't help but feel as if something was missing. They all came to agree that the sound wasn't whole enough and another guitarist would be needed. They all had but one person in mind...Fortunato awoke from his slumber one day, popped in during a jam session and simply asked, "Hey can I join the band?" He was then induced as a second guitarist and in doing so, was able to treat his addiction to Warcraft and have something to wake up and look forward to in the mornings to come. Now that they were whole they began to put their song ideas together and practiced as often as they could for about 2 months before booking their first show at a local bar called Crossroads, which had a surprisingly good turnout. The second show, however, was disastrous. The PA system had malfunctioned and so they had to perform the show acoustically.Lurking in the shadows was a long haired girl, who seemed to have a liking for the music. She would come from time to time to watch the group perform and one day had asked them if they had a band manager. Coincidentally, The Black Rainbows were still in their adolescent stage and could use some form of guidance, in turn offering her the temporarily non-profitable position. Realistically, The Black Rainbows just grew fond of her name and Fresh still manages the band to this day.Their influences include: the Ramones, the Beach Boys, the Pixies, the Unicorns, the Libertines, the Ronettes, and Aventura. On November 17, 2007, the band recorded at a local studio called the Big Room and fans say influences such as the Ramones can really be heard on this demo.
