Thistle Givin’

Thistle Givin’ is the collaborative music project of Rob Addington, Annie Addington, Brant Slay (aka the Chickenbone, and former Chickasaw Muddpup), Michael Crow (of Grand Champeen fame), and likely soon to come other family and friends, including three year old son Will. Influences include a mix of indie bands, country blues and old-time traditional music. Songs therefore represent a range of styles, and the collection in total is somewhat of a hodge-podge (though hopefully amounting to some reasonably enjoyable listening, all-in-all). Add some Chickenbone for a bluesy flavor, salt to taste... About the songs posted here: "Intro" is a swampy instrumental recorded summer 2006 at Rob’s house with Brant on harmonica. "Stumble on the Fall Line" is Brant and Rob’s tribute to the natural and cultural history of the Chattahoochee Fall Line region, recorded at Rob’s house, summer-fall 2006, with Brant singing and playing harmonica, and lyrics by the Chickenbone himself. Both were mixed by Andy LeMaster at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, GA. "By and By" was written on a quiet Friday night by Rob and Annie shortly after moving to Columbus, GA, in 2004, and recorded and mixed by Crow in Austin, TX, spring 2004. Crow lends his amazing musical talents on violin and bass. "Pencil Me In" was written by Rob with Crow on pedal steel and banjo, and Jeff Johnston (from Li'l Cap’n Travis) on stand-up bass. Crow also recorded and mixed this one, spring 2006. Hope you enjoy. -RA
