MY PHILOSOPHY & LIFE STYLE
I am more spiritual than "religious"(This doesnt mean Im not religious). I like to consider myself a scholar in theology (with much learning to do); I study ALL types of religions & cultures; I believe that every religion holds a peace of a larger puzzle. Each faith claims to have the truth. The reality is that each faith has a part of the truth and when they all join together in harmony they will see the whole puzzle completely. I consider myself a pacifist Christian Franciscan with multi-religious influences. I TRY to live a healthy and organic lifestyle. My main passion in Life is Arts (all types of Arts). My political affiliation is with the Green Party. I find it is paramount to protect those that need protection and to unveil the masks of those whom seek to harm. Over all, I try to keep a positive outlook on life.
MY BACKGROUND & FAMILY
I was born and raised in Colombia. I am vary proud of my nationality. I was born into a strong, religious, catholic-practicing family. My mother is an understanding, liberal, born catholic but my dad is a dedicated, obsessive, born again catholic. My mom was a catechist since her youth and later the head director of catechism in our church. My dad is a minister of the Eucharist and a lector.
MY OCCUPATIONS AND PERSONAL PROJECTS
I am a sophomore honor student at Miami Dade College. I am working towards a doctorate (PsyD) in psychology, masters in theology, and bachelors in theatre education..I am an annotator for physically and mentally handicap students at My School. It doesnt pay well, but I love what I do and it comforts me through College. I sometimes work as an activist, depending on the length of the project and how it conflicts with my priorities (I am somewhat of a perfectionist so I TRY not to pick up a project I cant finish). I am a Spoken Word Artist; poetry readings and the occasional Slam (Im working on my first Book and CD); I have done numerous SLAMS and festivals, like the Love Inn Festival: A Tribute to the 60s, were I opened for Ritchie Havens. Now I perform, open, feature, and sometimes host in different Spoken word poetry events in local churches, schools, cafes, pubs, nightclubs, and bars (my stage name is Lex The Gentle Giant Lopera). I am a writer (poetry, screenplays, Musical theatre, play write, etc.) I am working on my first full length musical. I am an actor (I have done some movies-Indie movies- but am mostly into theatre) I dont wish to be a famous actor but I would like to do a lot of stage performances, club and bar debus. I have been in hiatus because of my schooling and other projects. Added to my writing, acting, and poetry my artistic nature is extensive (painting, sketching, designing, etc.). %D%A %D?uring my school breaks I go on tour as a roadie for a national stage company called Back Stage Productions (So far I have worked for and met: Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Shaggy, Buju Banton, Black Eyed Peace, and many others). I am a Zen-Tantric masseur, focusing on alternative Asian massage therapy (my style is so unique that there isnt an official license for it, so I do it occasionally by word of mouth)
MY NEAR-FUTURE EXPECTATIONS
(NOTE: Your probably thinking none of this is spontaneous even though I described my self as such; up until know I have lived my life on a whim, even though Ive know what I want to do. As a result I always end up back were I started but with more experience. Keeping an Agenda will put my life into perspective. I understand life Will through me into different situations but this will help me keep in control. My agenda will change depending on the changes my life goes through. I know that, and I have accepted that.)
The first thing on my Agenda is to get my teachers certificate. (this will help me embark on my professional as well as spiritual voyage). Even though I am studying to be a drama teacher I would like to combine my psychology training with my extensive art training to use art therapy (including theatre therapy). I already have a couple positions waiting for me as a drama teacher in several institutions. In the mean time I plan ..ing my first hard cover poetry book, fully edited spoken word CD, and my first full length Musical While going to school, I plan on doing short local tours to promote my book and CD. Before graduating I intend on doing my internship managing a theatre group in Thailand for three months. Once I get certified I plan on accepting a job that was offered to me by a non-profit organization called I to I as a drama teacher in a rural community of India for one year. After my year is done I hope to reactivate my non-profit organization as the Phoenix Knights (a traveling group of artists from different religions and cultures promoting world unity through artistic expression, educational workshops, forums, and service to the community). During the duration of the development of my Non-profit org, I will scout the island of Cuba as a possible location for my initial long term project (I believe Cuba will once again be a tourist haven for all the nations and it will be the cheapest place to buy land and property one communism falls). I plan on settling a kibbutz-like community focusing on various arts, numerous religions/faiths, agriculture, and cultural tourism. Within the Kibbutz I will built a performing arts theatre were I would also teach, practice theatre art therapy, and manage a theatre company. The kibbutz will be me managed by The Phoenix Knights. Eventually, (God Willingly) I will get ordained as a Franciscan Monk or Brethren Deacon as well as becoming a minister of the Eucharist and/or a missionary. I would also like to get involved in Cuban politics via the Green Party.
(AGAIN: Most of these projects are on the roll already; but I dont know what life has in stored for me. I might get married, have children and a completely different life; but at least I know, one way or another, Ill have a solid and happy future.)
MY PAST LIFE EXPERIENCES
I was an alter boy most of my youth. Before I continued my studies in College, I was a catechist (Bible Studies Teacher) in a private Christian school. While doing my studies I work in a children psychiatric center doing musical therapy with autistic children. I have been known to be radical activist with a firm believer in non-violent protesting. As an activist, I mostly focused on Unity of religion-spirituality-culture-lifestyle, working class rights, The FTAA, injustice by FDA, Supporting the troops but not the cause in Afghanistan, Animal rights, corporate greed, and promoting a healthier more organic lifestyle (there are many more issues I am an advocate for).Ive had my share of governmental politics and corporate America; I was working on a pre campaign to run for school board representative with the local Miami Green Party (but it wasnt my calling) later I was asked to run in the 2008 elections for House of Representative in our district (I turned it down for now due to my personal projects). I was head campaign organizer for top presidential candidate at Miami Dade College. I was an active leading senator for the Student Government Association in the North Miami Dade Chapter (Later I was appointed Executive Director by the College President). I was the vice president of the Drama Club in my College. I was an organizer for the Service Employees International Union Florida Local 1199 which led to labor projects in Washington DC, Tallahassee Florida, and Tampa Florida. As far as corporate America, I was a projection specialist for a multi-cinema-plex, which lead to the position of head Projection booth manager, which led to general manager (The National Bureaucracy I had to deal with as general manager led me towards civil work and progressive politics). I was elected vice President of Music Entertainment Industry Student Association (A national organization focusing on upcoming musical acts). I began my own production entertainment company called UnisonX productions, which was a collaboration of an earlier organization I began called The Poetic Movement. Ive acted with several Theatre companies around south Florida. I began acting school in my pre-teen years and followed it through to present times. I began writing poetry & stories late in my elementary years. I am in the process of learning how to play the acoustic guitar. I would like to extend my artistic list by adding saxophone, harmonica, and accordion. I hope some day I will be considered a renaissance man. Even though I am studying to be a drama teacher I would like to combine my psychology training with my extensive art training to use art therapy (including theatre therapy) in my medical practice.%D%A I was a bouncer for several night clubs in South Miami Beach. I was a bartender and a VIP host for Cirque Du Soleil (I toured temporarily with them). One of my first jobs was as a carnie for Amusement of America Carnival
(Your probably asking, This guy is only 24 years old, how could he have done so much already? When I was 12 years old I was already 6 feet tall, letting my hair grow long and began to grow out my beard-puberty hit early- by the time I was 13years old I looked like a grown man and was lying about my age so that I could work to help my family; we were poor illegal immigrants from Colombia at the time.)
