The Razorbacks... A Tribute, and Information Site

About Me

This is a Tribute/information site done in co-operation with the Razorbacks. All materials are used with permission from the band.
The Canadian band the Razorbacks, which is the one that most people know began in the fall of 1986. The genesis of the band in its many forms goes back to 1980..
Formed in 1986 by Tony Kenny, Don Dekouchay, and Joe Myke the band quickly rose to prominence as street performers, both Tony and Joe had extensive experience busking and performing with Tony's former band The Wiseguys, check out "no cause for concern" website for bio.
The band signed a major record deal with Warner Canada. Then released "Go To Town" which had British guitar ace Chris Spedding as producer. The subsequent tour in 1988 saw the band perform 420 shows in that year. For this tour they hired singer guitar player Donny Cartwright
The second release "Live a Little" came out in 1989 and again saw the band in constant tour mode. Much of the time was spent in Canada though they also play New York City, Nashville, Memphis, Louisville, Buffalo as well as two tours to the UK.
The band also made numerous TV appearances on much music, Tommy Hunter as regulars, Super Dave Osborne, to name only a few. The highlight came in 1989 when the band had its own TV Christmas Special "It's a Razorbacks Christmas Barbeque" featuring Marry Margararet Ohara as guest. She was nominated for a Gemini for her performance of ?Blue Christmas? with the razorbacks. Really there is to much TV to remember all of it. The band kept its own label going doing recording for fun and for fans.
Donny left beginning of 1990. Mean Steve Piano and Mike Dankirt then joined. Problems with Warner Canada surfaced. The label was unhappy that money for Razorback albums didn't make it past the production company. The band got rid of the "hangers on" and hired Craig Deans, their road manager, to over see operations. By mid 1992 Donny Cartwright rejoined Steve and Mike left. By 1994 Donny was gone again and replaced by guitar wizard Danny Bartely, this was pretty well the line up till the end in 1996.
The band was known for its high energy crazed rock n roll shows, with Tony's canrny barker personae, Joe's bass antics and Don's aggressive stand up drumming. One could say an early influence was the Shakin' Pyramids. With a show consisting of almost all original material, written mainly by Tony, one can only wonder what they would have done with legitimate management.
