To look at today’s Hip-Hop recording artist rags to riches stories you would find the same cliché story, drugs, jail time, and that once in a life time break that changed there lives…but if you take a look closer into the life of Russell Polk, you’d find a story of privilege and extraordinary success and real talent…you’d find Russ P..
Russ P., the eldest child of a middle class single parent home, grew-up in Memphis Tennessee and knew at an early age that he would have an extraordinary life. He had gifts and talents that were far beyond his age and that of his peers. Take a look into his life:
At the age of 17 Russ P. moved out of his mother’s house, and took on the world. He had his own place, his own car, his own hustle and still managed to graduate from high school and flourish. That wasn’t enough. He had a talent that he wanted the world to know about. "I’ve always known that my flow was different. I was creating and thinking of things in my teens that rappers on the radio wasn’t doing." But thinking and creating wasn’t getting him heard. Enter Doramus, a local producer with the full intent ..ing launching Russell’s career.
His first recording for Doramus " Throw It Up" was a local success and earned him a trip to Atlanta to record a demo with an upcoming producer named Elvis. Needless to say, he laid the track and everyone was stunned by his effortless display of creativity and lyrical delivery. " Once they heard me lay the track, they told me to pack my stuff and move to Atlanta and they would put me up until I got a deal." And Russ P. did just that.
Russ P., didn’t just sit idly and wait for a deal…that wasn’t what he was there for. He helped form a group call A.D.D (attention deficit disorder) with group member and friend Yung-Joc. "I was there when he did " It’s Going Down". Because of management creative differences Joc got his deal with Puffy by himself. "I was in the video, that’s my boy ain’t nothing change that!" Even though his management wasn’t able to produce the deal he wanted, he met the producer his career needed.
J-Praize, the producer of the smash hit "Wanksta," heard Russ P. and took him under his wing. "Just do what you have to do as an artist, remain humble, step back, and watch everything fall into place," J told Russ. Raw talent, combined with an insatiable hunger and "the right" producer backing you, what more can one ask for? Russ P. is different because he is consistent, and will do something great on every track, not just a few."
Something great is exactly what the industry can expect from this smooth sophisticated southern kat, and the industry’s number one producer-a recipe for platinum success. It’s simple, take a classic story and put an urban spin on it and you have it….you have him the new rap superstar…the real deal…Russ P.
