Mirela Kovacevic Smith

I am a songwriter 30 years in the making. Growing up I always knew that I wanted to write and I always knew that I wanted to sing. It wasn’t until I got married and my guitar virtuoso husband taught me my first three chords on the guitar that I started to put my love of writing and singing together.However, music took a back seat when we had a couple of kids. It wasn’t until my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s that the music came back. I found it was a way to express the things I couldn’t say and it became therapuetic for me. Now a few years down the road, I enjoy writing about life in an honest and emotionally naked way, occasionally throwing in a little lighthearted humour.Over the last few years I have featured at the Keith Thompon’s Songwriter’s Café, played the Songbird Café at the Riverrun Centre in Guelph, Ontario, played the annual Wallypalooza fesitvals, and had a gig at the wonderful Manhattan’s Music Club in Guelph, Ontario. This fall I plan to gig more often and put together a few demos so keep coming back to the site to see what’s new!
